Is there a stack of 'em somewhere around here 'cause I got choked up too. I'll just leave my mancard on the table next to yours. Awsome race report!! Congrats & continued SUCCESS with it. I have a half mary in 2 weeks & my training has been real hot & cold lately. This was just the inspiration I needed.

Do you guys, meaning athletes, prefer races without Clydesdale divisions, prefer races with Clydesdale divisions, or could care less either way?

That would be a good thread in its self in the Clyd/Athena section.

I just race for fun, but when looking at the stats from my first and only race I preferred to compare myself to the Clyds rather then the skinny guys. Honestly, the available divisions are not a part of choosing races.

OMG...Dan's original story, the responses from Laurie and Jeff, I'm sitting here crying. What an amazing little (huge) community we have here. I am so inspired by all your stories. I can just imagine that after a battle with obesity and then completing an HIM, there isn't a challenge that can up in your life that you'll look at and think "I can't do this." Great job!

I don't care either way. But....I did learn a lesson during my first ever tri. I raced in the Clydesdale division which was the last wave. I had trouble on the bike (ummm...my brake was off center and it was rubbing on the tire...ugh). I was so slow that I was dead dead dead last racing all by myself. Some of the experience was lost on me because I really was all alone.

Now I race in my age group. Of course I have a new bike also.

Thanks for sharing your awesome story.  I couldnt have read it on a better day.  I found this site and have been sitting here wondering can I do this or not.  Being 40 pounds over weight and not able to run 5 miles yet  (did a 1/2 marathon walk last fall in 3hrs) I am afraid of failing, but you have made me realize the only way I fail is by not trying, even if I come in last.

What a great inspiration for me.  Mega Congrats on your accomplishments   Jeno
