I am happy to report that I broke the 2 minute per hundred barrier.  Today I swam a steady 1 m 55 second 100 yard average for 1000 yards.  Swimming has been a real mental and physical obstacle for me.  However, at 1 55, I feel like I can swim a nearly infinite distance without risk of drowning.

Obviously, this is still really very slow, but it is a huge accomplishment for me as I could not swim more than 50 freestyle yards total without stopping in September 2008.

Congrats, I was in the same boat as you last September. I really need to start timing myself, but I still think I'm slower than you. What methods did you use to reach your goal?

Emerson method and several open water videos.  Biggest thing for me is forcing my head to be low in the water, reducing my kicking speed and rocking by body to breath.

Sweet!

I've been after that sub 2:00/100 1000 yd TT since '06. Be happy you broke that barrier. We all want to be faster than we are...making progress is wonderful!

For a swimmer it is slow, but for an average triathlete i would say, from looking at logs and limited race experience, that sub 2:00/100 is middle of the pack at worst.

Congrats on the progress, it is nice to see when hard work pays off!!!!

You can call it slow... but there are a lot of people who are jealous, myself included!  Good job!

Slow is a relative concept. If you were a competitive pool swimmer, yeah, it might be on the slow side. For triathlons and OWS stuff, it's solidly MOP.

Well done, keep going! Your next barrier is the 1:45/100 mark. :D Time to start adding serious interval and threshold training!

But my favorite part is the fact you feel like you can swim that pace forever.  THAT is a really great confidence factor.  It shows that your form has allowed you to be one with the water.

There is a generic saying that if you aren't below 2/100 then it is a technique problem and you need to work on your form.  Then if you are below that you simply need more pool time to get faster and technique work becomes less needed.

Sounds like you are at the pivot point where you just need more swim training time to get faster.  Congrats!
