Pre-race routine:

Got up early as we do for all these races, ate and headed out to the race site with my buddy.
Event warmup:

Transtion set up. I did a little swimming before we started.
Swim
  • 17m 34s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

I did well in the swim however I know I could do better if I would get my lazy butt in the water more. The swim was a "time trial" start based on your submitted times. The swim was an OWS and you swam out just a little way hung a left and then a long straight shot down to the left to the exit. I passed several folks on the swim inculding my buddy who started some 30 people before me. I was happy to pass him because I knew my weakness would be the bike and he is a strong biker. made it out the ocean and onto the beach for a little run to the transition.
Transition 1
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

T1 went well.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 27s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.01 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a flat course, I knew I had not been on the bike like I should have, but I wanted to try and make it to around M12 before my buddy passed me. Around M5 or 6 is where he caught me and I tried to keep near him, but knew the pace was to fast for me. Then it was keep him in sight then it was ohhh maybe I will catch him on the run. There are two turn around points one at M12 and M24 where you see other riders coming back by the M24 he had 5-6 minutes on me. Headed back to T2

Oh yea it was a real nice course on Jekyll Island
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the bike
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

In and out
Run
  • 1h 02m 58s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Started the run and around hitting the M1 marker I knew I had trashed my legs on the bike. I was running slow and felt a muscle cramp trying to grab a hold. I just kept plugging along, it had gotten a little hot on the run, but they had 6 water stops and that was nice. The horse flys loved me and I was swatting them pretty regular. I lady near me made the comment that I looked like pig pen with all the flys around me, so I then nick-named her Lucy. Again at M5.5 ish the mucsle cramps started but just slowed up a little and ran it in.
What would you do differently?:

train more on the bike so I do not trash my legs on the ride.
