Is this the first year for this event?  If so, what is everyone's opinion on doing first time events?

I would expect that a large complicated event like a triathlon would seldomly go smoothly its first year.  Though at $30, it's tough to turn down.  I was planning on doing the tri in Holliston that weekend, but this one is about half the distance from home.

That's pretty cheap. How bad can it be really? I might do this one.

The lake has been cleared from the board of health to swim in. The certificate from the health board has been around....people are braving the temps and swimming in it now.

It is the first year of this triathlon. It'll be great for $30! You guys should show up! The Planning Committee is hoping that it'll get really huge in the years to come. This year the Planning Committee isn't expecting more than 150 racers since they are slow on getting out the advertising. As of now, they aren't sure about how much "real food" we'll have afterwards beyond the standard fruit and bagels. The Italian Ice guy and hot dog vendor there are being looked at for providing free food for the racers (spectators have to pay).

You don't even need to look around to see that with a marked course, blocked-off  parking around the side of the lake where you may get "door prized", tech shirts, water/gatorade stops, guarded transition area for athletes only that this is a great value. A bounce house for the kids will be there too. They'll also have a raffle and the YMCA is really big on Red Sox tickets (and Celtics & Bruins when they were still playing). Parking will be easy and close. Oh and one KICK BAGPIPE PLAYER is scheduled to be there too!

There are two multiple Ironman finishers now helping plan the event, so if anyone knows what makes an event great for athletes, they are there to put their 2 cents in.

But it's a $30 event! Grassroots fun and a great place to spend time hanging out with friends afterwards......it's not short-course Timberman, but it's not $85 for a sub 2 hour-long race either.

Hope to see KevinG and whoever else was planning on coming out!

Not sure about water quality.  But if people can surf on it, it shouldn't be too bad.

As of today they said they are going to cap it at 120 people. We're expecting it to sell out before raceday.

So the two Joannes ~ sign up soon if you want to do it! Especially isis - I know the potential "draw" towards Wakefield!

I just started training for my first one 6 weeks ago for the Glouster Tri I was going to do in August but this is 2 minutes from my house and I love this Lake I grew up going around this lake a million times. The thought of 4 laps on the bike and no drafting might be tough. The lake is extremley crowded on a day to day basis I wonder what it will be like on race day

I'm in. Just registered. This is 5 minutes from my in-laws house, so it's pretty convenient for me. Very flat course so it should be fast.

Drove to the Y after work yesterday, I am in.  The lady at the counter said the total is up to over 80 so far, so I expect it to sell out by race day. This is a great bargan, and I love running the lake. This is my main training spot, especialy in the winter! This will be too cool!!

Joe, there's so much grass/real estate there too if you wanted to pitch your tent thingy and hang out afterwards! Is the family coming?

This will probably be the first time you've ever hauled a$$ around the lake on your bike without having to worry about people opening their doors on you on the one side of the lake, or getting cut off by people going to the parking lot by the baseball fields, cemetary, or the hotel since there will be traffic control as well as police details. I'm actually jealous

Signs should be up a few days around the lake before the race alerting that there will be a race in progress, so the normal offenders who "are entitled" to walk 2-3 abreast on the sidewalk with their double strollers and dog will have a heads up. But that definitely shouldn't be too much of an issue since it's early anyways.

Bike on the road, run on the sidewalk, opposite directions.

If we can just get that sausage guy who keeps his cart caddy-cornered from the beach to get on board for some free chow for athletes that would be AWESOME.......

Is the road going to be coned off on the bike course? I'm not worried about the run, but the bike may get messy if the traffic is bad or there are a lot of cars parked on the road as there usually is.

Tried to register on Active.com - but it said it wasn't available anymore...I'm guessing it's full?  I had so much fun at Mooseman yesterday I was thinking I can't wait until Black Fly and I was hoping to sneak in another...so cheap!
Anyone know if it's definitely full?

Maybe try calling the YMCA that is sponsoring it. A few people dropped off registrations there.

I don't know. It's called the Burbank Tri so it must be the Burbank YMCA. I'm not from that area, but I would imagine it's the Wakefield tri.
How'd you do at Mooseman?
