Hey, any pre or post-race activities?
I have other commitment on race day so I won't be there to volunteer/jock this year.

I think there will be some plans and social gatherings but nothing is firmed up. Many of us are doing Mooseman this weekend so our focus is there right now.

My husband and daughter's are volunteering for swim and will probably help in transition as well. They are still looking for volunteers if you know that someone might like to help out.

Did you all see the wave assignments for the swim. They have men over 45 and all women starting before the m39 and under should be interesting.

I guess I'm not racing as Athenas aren't included or maybe I can just skip the swim

Email they sent to me twice!

Waves for this year's Patriot are as follows:

  1. Open/Elite Men and Women
  2. Men Age 45 and over
  3. Women Age 40 and over
  4. Women Age 39 and under
  5. Men Age 35-44
  6. Men Age 34 and under
It will be a bit of a pass fest as all the younger guys pass many of the women.

What's our plans?

Friday night is our oldest daughter's graduation from middle school event. Any thought to doing something after the race?

Anyone nervous, excited?

I found out I'm in the last wave..stick the slow people in last wave 30' after the 4 hour folk start so they are giving out awards before I finish...don't love that.  Being a somewhat slow swimmer I'm guessing not to many folks will pass me on the bike unless the speedy elites loop me.

Likely means more swimmers crawling over each other.  Mooseman wave order and spread was reasonable.  This should be interesting...as I squirt water out my nose.  Don't care.  My first HIM too.  Gonna have the time of my life (or time of death) no matter what.  This is what I have been training for all off-season.  Let the good times roll baby.

I'm not sure if we can just hang out in the park after the race...we do that at other races. This is a catholic camp and may be a little more strict than other local parks.

I can ask my tri team for ideas of where to go afterwards.

FYI there are indoor bathrooms and showers in the dorms you can use, just don't tell everyone else...there is a men and women wing.

99s is a good choice.

I'll probably finish last of the BTers as I start at 7:30....7 hours is 2:30 so maybe 3:30 or there abouts?

How about starting a count on how many want to go and then we can figure out a time.

Hey folks,

Mark, co-RD of the Patriot, chiming in here. Regarding the waves... first off, sorry for the 2 emails. The first one was from our email provider (Constant Contact) and they have an annoying glitch that causes the end of some content sections to get cut off and that's what happened here. The last wave and info that waves would be 5 minutes apart was cut out of the email. Argh!

As for the wave order, its the kind of thing where someone needs to be last. I know its not fun being in the last wave, but unfortunately someone has to be. The waves are structured in an effort to get older age groups out earlier and to keep the size of the waves smaller. We're always willing to listen to suggestions on wave order or anything. The waves are posted to the website.

As for hanging out after the race, you'll be under no pressure to leave the camp. We have it for the whole weekend so hang out, enjoy the post race catered meal and good luck on winning some of the giveaways we've lined up... there are some great ones!

Mark,

Last year you started giving out awards when there were still folks finishing under 7 hours out running. How are you doing that this year?

Once awards start lots of folks leave the finish area, and after doing a HIM it is nice to have some folks there cheering you in while you finish.

I get someone needs to be in last wave and makes sense to put relays and aquabike there as they tend to be relatively speedy...but Athenas?  Why not have them start in a women's wave..are there maybe 6 of us? From a time efficiency view doesn't make sense.
