Subject:WEEK 1 RESULTS: Kim and the bear's "Ride Lots" Challenge
OK, I know some of y'all are hoping we forgot about this, but a lot of y'all are out there pedaling your steadily firming buns off to meet your three-week goals. Just a couple of comments:
Miles shown are those properly logged into your training log for Sunday April 10 through Saturday April 16. These miles do not include those ridden and logged today (17th) or prior to the challenge start on April 10.
Those of you logging trainer/stationary bike/spinning time as miles, stop it! None of these vehicles go anywhere, so, regardless of what that phony-baloney odometer says, they do not travel miles. If you log them as miles, they are included in your total, so go back and edit them out.
Review your goals, and up them if you wish. (I upped mine to 600 so Ricci wouldn't be alone). No, you cannot lower your goal.
GWOZDZ, I accidentally deleted your PM so I'm not sure your goal is accurate.
NYtrigal, I let you in late, and assigned you a goal arbitrarily. Based on your week, that probably needs to be upped.
madcow, you need to up your goal and quit resting on your awesome fantastic unbelievable past accomplishments.
mikericci started next week off with a century today, putting my 82 miles to shame.
As a group, 45 participants have logged over 2,470 miles plus 6 hours 20 minutes (vonholt), but no bike purchase from will. I'm not sure if he bought 1/3 of a bike this week or not.
If you're under 33-1/3%, you have plenty of time to reach your goal. However if you're under 20%, possum, you need to get off the computer and ride.
So here, like it or not, is the results through April 16, arranged by percentage of goal completion:

I will up my goal to 200. I think that will be a little more of a stretch for me. This is my first month actually training on a road bike, so I really didn't know how far I could go in a training ride.

I probably underestimated too. I also plead newbishness and unfamiliarity with training of any flavor. I'm still on my mt.bike too. I got skinny tires that help some but I think the limiting factor now is my backside. Nevertheless, bump me up to 200 for the challenge as well, please.

I forgot about my taper week, so I may have overestimated my goal, but I'm not going to lower it. I refuse to hurt myself for the sake of 'ride lots', however as well. I'm hoping that my next short ride "accidently" gets about 30 minutes over like my last one did. In any circumstance, I can only be a winner, because I'm on my bike and riding!!!

If your goal was accurate, you should be somewhere near 33% of your total. I think NYTrigal and Vonholt are sandbagging. Now, you have to admire someone like mikericci, he bit off 600 miles and is only 17% of the way there!

Are you kidding or serious? I'm not participating in this, but I use a stationary bike, and although it doesn't move, I feel like I've gone the mileage it states--by the sheer exhaustion I feel at the end of the workout!

This is a mileage-based challenge, plain and simple, no pseudo miles counted. Those were the rules set down at the start. The idea is to enjoy this onset of spring and get out and ride.
Odometers on stationary /spinning bikes are notoriously innacurate. You should be focusing on intensity (HR) and time.

My total actually includes my long sunday ride, since when I`m looging my workouts here (Japan), it`s usually the previous day in the States. As of the end of the day on Saturday I was at 37.5% of my goal. This is a bit higher than 1/3, so I`ll increase my goal by 2 hours (for a total of 14 hours post 4/9).

I WILL be the first to meet my goal...
more to come tonight...
If you bring your bike home tonight you will be. If they keep it a couple days, I'll be over 600 miles by the weekend (after having crushed my initial goal of 300).

HA.. you must be riding over to Jackson, MS and back to see my new shiny bike!

Not wanting to be a sandbagger here. I'm already over 300 if you add in Sunday's ride. Racing next weekend, so that won't be a whole lot of mileage, but 400 is very doable by month end. Bear, crank my goal up for me if you please.
