Do you look forward to all your workouts and just can't wait to exercise?

Or do you train simply to race and dislike training? Does the thought of getting faster etc for your next race get you through the training?

I know some people who like training more than racing and then I also know some people who hate training but love racing.

What about you guys?

I've only started training two weeks ago, but I can already tell I'm going to enjoy it.  I'm looking forward to my training and I can't wait to compete in my first triathlon.

Depends, I guess.  I like running most of the time (training or racing), don't mind swimming, not a big fan of training on the bike (mostly because of the urban setting in which I pretty much have to ride).  I like seeing the results of training probably as much or more than I enjoy the training in itself.

I like races because it keeps me focused and motivated to be consistent with the training.
I love training because it is what keeps me in physical, mental, and emotional shape for life.

Swim and bike, yes.

Running - no, but I have a sense of accomplishment afterwards.

I agree with ea beam, I love the training for swimming and biking, but not so much the running.  The racing is ok, but fills me with tons of anxiety before the event.

I use the workouts for the endorphines to offset the sadder side of life.  Most of the time, I have to use excuses not to work out and spend time with wifey and work.

Bike and Run - yes, (Except I can't run right now)

Swimming - not yes, But coming to enjoy it more... I like the open water days. Pool days are frustrating.

Some days its hard to get started, but I am always glad I did.

Haven't raced yet, but getting more excited as the first comes closer.

I love training. I live to run as a marathoner and now love to bike. I enjoy swimming but I am still recovering from a separated shoulder I got playing rugby. But overall I love training and look forward to it everday.

I need the training.  Especially long runs.  It clears my head.  I imagine the last mile being the last mile of my first Marathon and the endrphins hit me and it is a total buzz.

I like the swimming.  If I could get my aquatic center to turn up the heat in the pool, I would probably love it.

My bike is growing on me.  Hated it all winter while on the trainer, but hitting 18mph for an hour, and going over 25 miles for the first time, that was pretty cool.  I can see as I get into 50+ mile rides I will love it for the solitary time that my work and home lives just do not allow.

I haven't Tri-ed yet, but in my running races, it all comes together.  I love the nervous feeling as I cross the starting pad and hit my pace.  I love the rush of nearing the end and a PB is in sight.  I can't wait for the horn in the water for my first Tri and crossing the finish.

Well, I've been a runner for a long time and until the past winter, I loved training - to the point of obsession.  Then I started getting injured and ended up taking the whole winter off.  Until I decided to cross-train by registering for a triathlon, I was having trouble getting back out there.

I've just completed my first week of training in all three disciplines.  It was hard, but I loved the new diversity.  Somehow, because I won't be over-training in any one sport, I feel excited about doing something different every day.  I exceeded all of my goals this week and fit in about 250 minutes of training time.  Let's see if I can keep it up until my first tri in August!

The training..has great days and really sucky days.
Overall I like to train to race.

I LOVE to race.  I run hot and cold on training.  When I'm having a really good ride/run/swim it's awesome.  Other times it's just logging miles.  However, I'm a little OCD about the workouts and my training plan.

I always love being out on the bike - although I curse the wind a lot.  I am a swimmer - but I don't like AM pool workouts.  They just aren't fun.  I love going after work when I have the luxury of time.  Running is ... well running.  I love it when I feel fast and strong.  I hate it when I feel heavy and slow.

I really like it all, except being on the bike trainer or the TM, ugh. I am an outdoors person, would rather run in the rain than on a treadmill. The indoor pool is fine though.

I don't actually race, I sign up for races and participate in them and have a blast but I'm only in competition against me. I completely enjoy the atmosphere of the races and the camaraderie there. The more organized the race the more I tend to enjoy it. I'm doing the longer and larger races this year to see how much better that is than the local ones.

I love biking, like swimming and hate running. I do realize, though, that running is necessary to do the other two so I do it. For tris I have run farther than I've ever run before and come to just about not actively hate it, almost. We'll see how that goes in the next few years, though

Tri training is my way of staying fit and having more than the one thing (running) that I can do to maintain that keeps me from the running injuries that I was having just about constantly before this.

Swim and run, yes to both training and racing.

Bike. No. Not on either account.

I like both and look forward to both.  I get grumpy if I had a planned workout that falls through because of life.  But I do love racing more ......

Do I look forward to every workout? No, but fast forward 10 minutes in the workout and I'm enjoying every bit of it.

I still have to figure if I prefer training or racing.

My first tri isn't until mid July, but I've participated in a few running race/events.  I love the post race comeraderie.  As a fairly shy/reserved person, making eye-contact with a complete stranger, and sharing a moment together to celebrate our accomplishments are priceless to me.

The training keeps my diabetes in check.  No medications since I started all of this back in October.  Saves me about a $100/month - after insurance.  I really like that.

I will say though, all of my biggest accomplishments and progress have been made during training, so I would have to say I enjoy the training aspect the most......unless it happens before 6AM, which has been much more frequent lately.

I used to only race - there is excitement, not in the potential for winning, but with crowds and people.
Now, I find that I enjoy training.
Run - yes, since it is comfortable for me
Bike - somewhat, although I sometimes labor which makes it less enjoyable
Swim - not so much, prehaps because I spend most of my time trying not to drown

But, the training is enjoyable since I cna see the cause (training) & effect (improved performance).  With a race, I normally am thinking about the details of the race and how I am doing.  With training, I can let my mind be free - becomes a relaxation mode.

training and racing go hand in hand - if you don't do the training, you are going to hurt way more during the race.  i like the race because it is a chance to really push myself and also a chance to go hard and see what i can really do when i am rested up.  i never take enough rest time to get 100% recovered - so come race day, i am much stronger then i thought - which is cool!  i love setting rediculous goals and crushing what i thought/know i can do!

i like the training the best though - except for the last couple of weeks. i am starting taper this week, so the last few weeks have been high volume and i have just felt super fatigued.  i am looking forward to a good couple weeks easy to get ready to crush my first half iron!

also, i do like talking to people, and when they ask what i did for a workout today, it is cool to get the 'what?!' ' you are crazy'  ' i couldn't even run X miles!'  etc

I love training...all 3 disciplines.  I love racing just a little bit more.  I wouldn't be here if I didn't love both.
