Overall Rank = 19/354
Age Group = Overall Female
Age Group Rank = 2/100ish
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 4:45 -ate a banana, oatmeal and a glass of OJ. Arrived at the race at around 5:40, checked in, set up my transition area. Had a hard time getting my race number on my bike and my race belt. Next time I think I will throw some scissors and tape in my bag. It was cold this AM and I was wishing I brought some gloves because my hands were frozen. Noticed right before going up to the swim start that the lenses of my new goggles had somehow bubbled in the heat. Luckily I had my spare pair with me, but the anti-fog is shot.
Event warmup:

About an 8 min jog (a little less than 1 mile) warm up at the beginning/end of the run course. Swam about 200 yards before the waves went off.
Swim
  • 10m 8s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good sighting, although I did have to de-fog my goggles once after the first turn buoy to see where I was going. Luckily this is not a huge race and the waves were pretty small so I did not run over too many people. Time was 17 seconds faster than last year.
What would you do differently?:

Not much other than check my goggles the day before the race to make sure they didn't boil in the heat!
Transition 1
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

My transition was not so great. Suit/cap off and wetsuit off my top was fine, but it got stuck a bit around my timing chip, Then I fumbled not once, but twice trying to get my darn cycle shoes on. Lost maybe 5 seconds (which would have put me under 1:09 :(
Oh, running past the port-a-potties was not too pleasant.
What would you do differently?:

Be less clumsy, practice my transitions more
Bike
  • 34m 12s
  • 12.84 miles
  • 22.53 mile/hr
Comments:

I actually thought I was going a lot slower than this -so was really pleased when I saw my splits :) I think this is because the gal that won passed me like I was standing still and I know she went about 4 min slower on the bike than me last year. Found out after the race that it was her second time on a bike at last years race (what a difference a year can make!).
My legs were tight coming out of the swim and it was chilly out -felt a bit uncomfortable for the first few miles, but then got into a better groove. I almost ate it on the really tight corner and had to slow down a bit going into the downhill. In hindsight I think I could have pushed a little harder, but I can't complain...it was 1:35 faster than last year.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, maybe push a bit harder.
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

I decided to keep my bike shoes on for the end of the ride in part because the finish is a bit technical. While it was not the fastest T2, I don't think I lost much time because of it. Fumbled with my socks a little.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Run
  • 22m 17s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

PB 5K :)
Run felt in control pretty much the whole time, felt comfortable and strong, I think I should have pushed a little more but got an awful stitch for the last mile that I had to push through. I think the stitch was actually the beginning of some gastro issues (I know, TMI) but I have been feeling kinda icky all afternoon :(
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, assisted stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my tummy, my bad T1.

Event comments:

I went into this race hoping for a 10:30, 35:30 and 23:00 splits (plus 2:30 for transitions) so was really pleased with the result. I also had a "shoot the moon" goal of 1:09 (hey-1:09.02 isn't too far off). PB sprint time by over 3 min :)

Good job! and nice 2nd overall! My legs felt the same way coming out of the water and getting onto the bike....icy cold. You had the fastest swim overall? Awesome!

Megan Nice race I still don't believe how fast you swim, what about some free lessons for me 8-)

Think I saw you a month or so ago running in Martin park in New Cannan. Nice race indeed your run has come along way indeed.

I run a lot at Waveny Park in New Canaan (is that the same as Martin park?). What races are you doing this summer?
