Calgary Marathon
~12C / 0F
Sunny
Total Time = 55m 9s
Overall Rank = 545/1853
Age Group = Female 20-24
Age Group Rank = 32/133
Pre-race routine:

Had some toast and 1/2 a power bar. Was there nice and early as my boyfriend was running the 1/2 marathon which started earlier.
Event warmup:

None really.
Run
  • 55m 9s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 31s  min/km
Comments:

Ran a consistent 5:30 for the first 4km. Dropped off a bit for the next few, then picked it back up for the last 2. Felt terrible around the 7.5km mark but fought through it. I drank some water around this point which made me feel bloated (even though I only had a little bit!).
What would you do differently?:

Practice more! Maybe not take in water on the 10k?? Anyone run into this problem?
Post race
Warm down:

Pretty much non-existant. Had to go watch everyone I knew running the 1/2 marathon finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall fitness.

Event comments:

Run seemed more disorganized than last year (I didnt run last year but I watched). They didn't line people up for the race, so slow and fast people were all mixed together. This was annoying because the course was fairly narrow in the beginning.

Nice job.  Way to tough it out on the back half of the run.  By the way, your results would indicate that you are a solid FOP'er!

Hey good run Sarah...had some nice weather for it today. Lots of people in the races today, guess that it is starting to get to big for the organizers.

Hey Sarah

Nice job on the run today.

Not sure exactly why you would have run into the bloated feeling, but do you feel like maybe you swallowed a lot of air?  I know that happens to me swimming.

Congratulations again.

Great job Sarah!!!

like Suzy said, perhaps you swallowed too much air when you took your water.  I try to slow down enough so I'm not gulping and bouncing when taking water during running races.  I used to have that problem on the bike but now tilt the bottle almost upside down before getting a gulp.

Sarah, great job!   Maybe try burping on the run to relieve the bloating.  FOP mean Front of the Pack (vs MOP - middle- and BOP-back of the pack).  You should be proud!!!
