Age Group Rank = 3/17
Pre-race routine:

watched terminator, light dinner couple of beers -not much sleep
grab some oj, throw the bike on the ca and drive to waynesville, have cliff bar, power bar, coffee and gatorade on the way. check in, claim an end bike spot, organize.
Event warmup:

run a mile, have gu and inhaler
Swim
  • 11m 40s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

i am just not as fast as i once was. if i swim strong and steady i am fine but when i go hard my navigation and breathing because erratic. i need to actual put training time in.
What would you do differently?:

i need to actual put training time in.
Transition 1
  • 00m 33s
Comments:

i think this went pretty smooth.

Now looking at results I was the fastest T1 overall.
What would you do differently?:

after T1 i need to pactice getting up to speed before i try to get my shoes on
Bike
  • 39m 21s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.82 mile/hr
Comments:

i still am working to adjust my bike right and learn how to ride with max power output for effort put in.

i am troubled that in 4 attempts at tris on a $900 TT/tri bike I am the same speed as on a $178 road bike with basket clips. i may have wasted money.
What would you do differently?:

adjust bike seat forward. train harder.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

it was not a bad T2 but lots of little problems. i coasted from too far out allowing a couple bikes to cut me off at the entry. i ran to my spot to find the yo yo next to me used my spot for his laundry line hanging his wetsuit up so i need to move it in order to get my bike on the rack. i took a little long getting my running shoes on. after i got out i kept unnecessarily messing with my race number belt.
What would you do differently?:

i will not coast from so far out.
Run
  • 20m 5s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

i started passing people from the 2 tri waves and the du wave in front of me. i set out to pass 30 - i passed 40 (unfortunately on a few were my wave. i
What would you do differently?:

probably should have had some water waiting at T2
Post race
Warm down:

half mile at finish. another 5 on the bike and 1 run at home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

still need to train more in the water and on the bike and be more mentally tough.

Event comments:

I really liked this race. There are a few small improvements they could make: They could have had the water stop closer to T2. The swim needed a buoy to keep the return traffic out of knee deep water. The run to T1 was really long. The bikes went out and in the same door. I'll would probably do this again.
