Mideast Multi-Sport Series
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 18m 10s
Overall Rank = 78/216
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 6/11
Pre-race routine:

Granola cereal for breakfast then filled the coffee mug for the 15 min drive to the park. Registered and setup transition.
Event warmup:

Quick jog to get the blood flowing then down to the swim start.
Swim
  • 14m 45s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not bad for only 1 swim workout since January. Not sure why people were in wetsuits as the water felt pretty comfortable. Then again, I shouldnt talk with my split time.
What would you do differently?:

Train.
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

Actually dropped my sunglasses and didnt realize it until out of transition on the bike. Dangerous but no issues during the bike.....I still have both eyes.

Anything around 1min is good for me.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.....not drop sunglasses.
Bike
  • 38m 55s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.04 mile/hr
Comments:

Good effort on the bike leg with the limited training. I expected more hills but no complaints. Really felt good on uphill and passed several folks. Didnt see anyone in my agegroup so either that means I was way behind or in front.....try behind.
What would you do differently?:

Train more....average 20mph was a little slower than I expected.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Again anything around 1min is OK with me.
What would you do differently?:

Grab a drink of H20 on last section of bike before dismount......no water station until turnaround on the run.
Run
  • 23m 31s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

On the short uphill section right after T2 I was seeing two large sun-spots. It freaked me out and I thought I was overdoing it. This went away but kind of scary. Nice run on the trail.....not so boring but did provide challenges in trying to pass folks (and being passed). Again, didnt see anyone from my agegroup. Pleased with my time given the amount of training.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.......for shorter bursts of speed.
Post race
Warm down:

Drink H20, grab a handfull of fruit/snacks and wasled a bit. Then I headed to transition for my gear.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training level.....gotta put in the time if I want faster splits. Wanted to do this race to prove to myself I could turn in a "decent" time given lack of training with the relocation (gotta keep perspective).

Event comments:

Overall I really enjoyed this event. Seriously liked the run on the trail and the bike course. Would have liked to train more given the relocation from GA to OH and my new job. Just did not put the time in. Compared to other races, the post-race events (food) could have been better....but nicest t-shirt from any of my previous races. Great day for a race.

great job!  especially on the bike.

agreed on the wetsuits - though i think the reason you saw so many is because the water should have been cold.  those of us w/o were just pleasantly surprised

on sunglasses - i have dropped/forgotten etc mine before - the solution NO sunglasses. one less thing to go wrong.  for HIM and rain i would wear them.

in 95% of the races i do the wetsuit is to help with speed, not warmth, great job out there!
