Pre-race routine:

Not much of a pre-race routine. I went for a 6 mile run with striders in the morning which probably came back to bite me during the race. I took 1 lap around the track after setting up transition.
Event warmup:

I took 1 lap around the track after setting up transition. Ran back to the bathroom a few times before the race started. (Imagine that!)
Run
  • 13m
  • 1.86 miles
  • 06m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off in the middle of the pack at a moderate pace. Noticed a twinge of chest pain on my right side and backed off a little. It took some effort to stay away from "race mode" and back off.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing on this day.
Transition 1

Comments:

12th place overall on T1!!! ME!! :-) 1st in AG!!

Comments:

Came out of pit row and transition pretty fast and started to push things going up the back stretch and realized I was pushing a bit too hard. I backed off a bit and just cruised in a high Z3. Had a blast going downhill, screaming "WHEEEEEE!!!!" as I went by people, then eased up on the uphill sections. I passed a girl with a NeverReach on the last lap, she was moving pretty fast. I said hello and cracked a joke to her but she wasn't too talkative. The last lap both of my calves started to cramp. I had to start coasting the downhills and stretching. I was a little nervous about how my legs were going to handle the run.

I was pretty pleased with the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing on this day.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

Forgot to take my helmet off, had to run back 20 feet. DOH!!!! 27th OA and 3rd in AG! Still not bad!
What would you do differently?:

Take helmet off!
Run
  • 13m 59s
  • 1.86 miles
  • 07m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Off the bike my calves started cramping. I walked through the water station and they seemed to calm down a bit. I started off pretty slow but gradually built up the speed to where I was running at a 7:00 pace at the end of the run. The NeverReach girl passed by me early on and told me I was having WAAAAAYYY too much fun on the bike! YEP!! I was definitely looking forward to getting back on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 3

Comments:

What would you do differently?:

Comments:

I just had fun for these 3 laps. It's such a treat to be able to ride on this track. I don't remember anyone passing me on the bike until the end of the second lap. I was coming to the end of the climb after the hairpin turn and I heard this bike coming up fast. As I turned to look I felt the hand squeeze my ass! TWINRACER!!! THE SOB LAPPED ME!!! There was a downhill right after that and I caught right back up to him and said "I OWN THE DOWNHILLS!!". That was short lived and I wished him well as he entered the transition area and I had 3.5 miles to go!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing on this day
Transition 4
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

Calves were cramping and I took a little extra time here.
Run
  • 14m 9s
  • 1.86 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Stopped and stretched just inside the gate. My calves were still tight but I just started running. After the first mile I was feeling comfortable and picked up the pace a little. It was nice only having to run less than 2 miles each leg. As Marmadaddy would say "I can do anything for 2 miles!!"
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Jogged back to the car to get some warm clothes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overweight and undertrained

Event comments:

I would highly recommend this race to anyone and everyone. The experience of riding on this racetrack will not be forgotten.

As a huge motorsports guy that would definitely be way too cool to race!!  It is one of the reasons that the Monaco 70.3 is one of my only destination races I want to do.

Well done and hope to meet you at E-Man!
