Total Time = 1h 10m 47s
Overall Rank = 76/168
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 12/18
Pre-race routine:

prepared everything the night before, check and re-check list.
wakeup at 5AM
protein shake + 2 oz trehalose + double shot espresso

I got to race site early enough to get marked and pick a good rack and location.
Event warmup:

the tide was out and that freaked a lot of us out, I basically just did some arm turns in the 2 ft deep water and came back, this swim was goinna get "run".
Swim
  • 11m 12s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 33s / 100 yards
Comments:

not the best swim, need to practice more, not that I didnt perform on the score but I did not meet my expectations.
What would you do differently?:

swim, practice the course,
Transition 1
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

didnt realise i had to run alongside bike for that distance, bike slipped off hand during that.
What would you do differently?:

practice jump mount as well as leaving shoes on pedals.
learn to run alongside bike with turns, etc - seen it done by hanging on by the bike seat.
Bike
  • 28m 47s
  • 10 miles
  • 20.85 mile/hr
Comments:

i started chasing and passing the next guy as much as I could, this Pirate chick and another guy and myself were pretty much pacing each other and were able to put good times.
What would you do differently?:

practice tight turns, work on cadence
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

thisw was a very fast transition, everything was set and I hit the run hard
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 28m 41s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

legs did not fire until I got to the asphalt, it was very uncomfortable. I was able to pick up the pace again on the asphalt and joined pirate chick and one of her friends until the last water station where they stopped for water and I sped up to chase the next guy in line. Once I got tohim, very close to the finish line, i asked him to speed up and join me but he did not respond. it was a great and strong finish for me
What would you do differently?:

do more bricks, practice more trail running.
Post race
Warm down:

warm down????

What limited your ability to perform faster:

swim: freaking out
run: getting legs to fire from the get go.

Event comments:

it was a little disorganized, i think they should have pay more attention to the tides although i am not sure it was due to the long FL drought. The use of timing chips is FANTASTIC. The awards were havoc, i think they could have done much better by doing holding off on the awards, and analyzing the data during the kids' event. I loved the proximity to my home, and I appreciate the organizers adding variety to the series, and I would do it again next year even if everything stays the same. I learned a lot about my skills, and myself. aThis was my second race ever and I see where I need to improve.
