Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:15 had a bagel with cream cheese, bottle of water with heed in it and orange juice. Had a nice treat as i was loading my bike up. A bear came walking up to our cabin with her two cubs scared the crap out of me. Ran back into cabin and watched and took a couple of pictures really a cool thing to see wife was mad at me for not waking her up.
Event warmup:

Got there around 7:00 which didn't leave much time for warm up. Did have time to get in the water which i thought felt great was expecting it to be colder.
Swim
  • 13m 34s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

I really enjoyed this swim started out in the middle of the pack which slowed me up a little bit but i do like to pass people more then being passed.
What would you do differently?:

Will move up a little and be more aggressive next race.
Transition 1
  • 03m 38s
Comments:

I got out from swimming quickly got suit off, Then i just started poking around couldn't get my shirt on cause i was wet. took way to much time putting socks and shoes on then i almost forgot helmet. Went back and got it then i couldn't get the strap to click.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a towel
Bike
  • 1h 12m 14s
  • 18 miles
  • 14.95 mile/hr
Comments:

Biking is my weakest area, I am happy with how well i held up with all the hills, I never felt like i wasn't going to be able to make it and i really enjoyed the course. The part that did bother me is my lack of skill in shifting I lost my chain twice while shifting gears. Then on the final hill that sneaked up on me instead of downshifting i shifted up and ended up jamming myself up and having to run up the hill which really ticked me off. I worked hard to get in shape to climb them hills which i very pleased with. Mental errors and inexperience really slowed me down though.
What would you do differently?:

I am going to ride more and focus on shifting, I also may buy a trainer so that i can learn to shift without thinking about it.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

I had no problem during this transition. Was poking around a little and joking with volunteers.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 26m 42s
  • 3.4 miles
  • 07m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

felt good running out of transition and was ready to run hard when a huge cramp hit me. I ran with it until the first water stop then had to walk briefly and stretch which didn't really help and i was beginning to get nervous that i was going to have to walk again. I hung in there until the next water stop where the volunteers were great!! They had wet towels music playing and really put out a good vibe. It gave me just the lift i needed. Plus the ground was solid which also help with the cramping. By the time i left the dam i felt great and ready to go. Someone from my age group passed me on the final mile so i hung back behind him for a little bit waited to the next hill and just took off he got blocked by a runner in front of him which gave me a chuckle. Then i just sprinted to the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

Drink a little more on bike do some more bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited for my friend to run in. Then headed down for some food, great spread. Then cooled off in the shade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of experience

Event comments:

Will do again
