Overcast
Total Time = 1h 50m 44s
Overall Rank = 176/368
Age Group = Clydesdale U40
Age Group Rank = 2/13
Pre-race routine:

Had only a little over 5 hours of sleep, got up at 5.30am, had 1 Clifbar, 1 banana, half a Gatorade and a coffe

Arrived there around 6.45, my wave did not start until 8.23 so I had lots of time

After setting everything up, I was helping the AA tri club with setting up the tent
Event warmup:

As usual... no warm up really
The water was not too cold so I got into the water earlier than usual
Swim
  • 14m 4s
  • 805 meters
  • 01m 45s / 100 meters
Comments:

Was more confident than last race, started in the front on the inside
For a long time I thought I was second in my wave as I did not see a group to my left, I was probably around place 10 in my wave

I had a tendency to turn slightly left
What would you do differently?:

Nothing much really
Transition 1
  • 03m 37s
Comments:

Was 3rd in Clydesdales with that time... I definitely wasted a lot of time in T1
Asu usual had a gel and some Gatorade

The suit was difficult to get off
Bike
  • 44m 33s
  • 14 miles
  • 18.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was okay, I didnt feel like I could have pushed harder, part of it is my fitness, part of it is the aero bar, it was good to have it back on but then it fell apart again and just gefore the last turn was unuseable
What would you do differently?:

Get e decent bike!!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

That felt like one of the faster transitions
Getting the bike back on the rack was a little slow
I also got a gel and some gatorade as always, very likely the right choice!

Was 7th among the Clydes
Run
  • 46m 59s
  • 5 miles
  • 09m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

This was the big surprise, I expected to be MUCH slower, was surprised by how well this went, I could not believe that I was doing around 9:30 average there
I pushed harder towards the end, and that must have gotten me 1st place in the Clydes
What would you do differently?:

Loose weight
Post race
Warm down:

Eating (the food was very good again, lot of choices), talking to friend from AATC

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight, training

Event comments:

I was completely surprised about how well I performed on the run (that is of course all relative)

Would have been 32nd in M35-39 AG, but winning the Clydes was of course great, even though it feels undeserved, given how little I am training this year

Will come back!

UPDATE: someone else was rated in the Clydesdale division and smoked us all! So I turned out to be second place, still great of course!
