Sunny
Total Time = 1h 13m 19s
Overall Rank = 10/319
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/21
Pre-race routine:

ate bread with PB, banana, coffee, and water. set up transition area, chatted with some folks, than meet Marmadaddy and dexter by the swim start. Mike gave me a BT tattoo...my first ink! kids and the wife came down, than headed to swim start
Event warmup:

was going to warm up, but transition closed at 7:15, my race didnt start until 8:15, so no access my run shoes and bike.
Swim
  • 12m 15s
  • 820 meters
  • 01m 29s / 100 meters
Comments:

I swam really well, for someone who was literally doing the dogie paddle in a 300 yard OWS last August. My goal was to come out fresh, and I was. managed to draft for a little bit of the swim, which helped, but it was just nice, long smooth strokes.
What would you do differently?:

swim slightly harder final 200 yards, but not much. I did well.
Transition 1
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

suit got jammed up on my timing chip, so I had to sit down and get it off. wasted maybe 10 seconds on this
What would you do differently?:

get my suit passed my chip strap
Bike
  • 36m 50s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 22.48 mile/hr
Comments:

crushed the bike. clearly my strength. extremely happy with 6 overall with a 300+ field. red lined the whole way, passed several intermediate and du's, didn't pass any sprinters nor did I get passed by any. just loved the bike
What would you do differently?:

hammer more. I left some on the course and that was a mistake. should have hammered more. also, didn't bring any water or sports drink, wanted some at mile 11-12, but didn't need it, should have brought some as I was dry....
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

did well on T2. took shoes off, bike with them and actually passed someone heading into T2 as I jumped off my bike going at a good clip, ran to my bike spot, and my freakin wetsuit is over my bike slot. try to ham it in there, bike fell over, had to pick it up, move wet suit, re-rack bike. 10 second mistake. other than that, perfect T2 for my first tri.
What would you do differently?:

not put my wet suit on my bike slot.
Run
  • 22m 10s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

not happy with my run at all. there was a thread on HTFU this past week, and I fail.

legs were fine, my lungs were screaming, but I should have sucked it up and went faster. I know I can. I figure I lost 1:00-1:30 just by not sucking it up. Problem was I got passed by only 1 sprinter and he was not in my age group and there was no one behind me with 1 mile to go. I knew an overall place was not happening as they were too far ahead, and I kinda just held on, only speeding up at the end when I saw someone coming.

disappointed with myself as I should have went faster.
What would you do differently?:

go faster.
Post race
Warm down:

found the wifey and kids, drank water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not much, really. my first tri ever, and I came out with an AG win and a 10th overall with a 300+ field. exceeded expectations.

Event comments:

great race, i'll be back next year. I've read comments about a chewed up road, a little bad, but nothing to be concerned about.

also, people say the water is COLD...not that bad either.

Holy Shirt.  You rocked that course.  Great Job on your win for the AG.   Great to meet you.  Glad you are in a way different AG.

PS Rubbing alcohol takes the tats off.

Great job today... yeah the weather was perfect.  Yeah i was looking around for anyone wearing BT stuff.  I wasn't wearing any myself so I figured that everyone wouldn't have been haha.  Now that I see I picture of your bike in you profile, I remember seeing it and admiring the HED wheels.

Yeah, I talked to marmadaddy after the race and he said that he was setting up a BT tent at Musselman.  Keep up the awesome work man and congratulations on the hardware!

Wow. What a performance! It must have been the BT tattoo.

This was not a throw away field, either. There are some fast people who competed in this race. Congratulations!
