Pre-race routine:

Up @ 4:30 ,OTD @5:00, race site @6:00. Cherry turnover and diet pepsi breakfast.
Event warmup:

does shivering count as a warm up?? No?? well, didn't warm up at all!! Another diet pepsi. Visited with the Donkai herd, as they left one by one to swim. My wave was second to last, didn't go off until 7:43'ish. (unless the race started late).
Swim
  • 10m 8s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

can't say much, or complain since my swim training was 1200 yrds in January and approx 500 yds in my pond yesterday!! Felt fine except head started hurting about halfway into the swim.
What would you do differently?:

train?? in the past this hasn't helped either!!
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

came into T1, at least 8 girls sitting around trying to put on clothing. Decided to skip the long sleeve shirt and just SIU, headed right out. Still a poor transition time, trying to get off wetsuit while pretty chilled. Did get out of T1 ahead of most or all of the girls who were in T1 ahead of me. Went with naked belly...had on sport bra type two piece tri suit.
What would you do differently?:

Get wet suit off the heel with the timing chip better.
Bike
  • 48m 26s
  • 15.8 miles
  • 19.57 mile/hr
Comments:

biked hard. Happy that my semi nakedness did not hurt me much. Core stayed pretty warm, arms, hands and feet froze. Since I was a late wave, the rain started right away, and rained hard most of my ride. (made me uber cautious in the turns...kept thinking "road rash is bad..don't get any".
Passed several girls in my wave, passed by 2 in wave after me, but caught one of them. Passed huge amt of wave 9-10. (I was 11) Aero the whole time until last 2 miles when my hands were so frozen couldn't really control the bike on the bars. Oh, did I mention the rain??? Water was pouring through the drain holes in my shoes in a steady stream. The last 3 miles my arms and toes were REALLY cold.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Getting out of T1 before all of those girls that were ahead of me in the swim made my race for me, cause none of them caught me! Realized how much I can SIU in nasty conditions.
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

racked bike quickly, tried to get helmet off, but my fingers wouldn't work. DJ and Craig were there, encouraging me. (thanks guys!) and DJ unbuckled my helmet for me. (I wonder if that would DQ me? Im thinking yes, help on the course...) Peeled off wet socks and ran sockless. (never have before).
What would you do differently?:

pray for better weather?
Run
  • 23m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Came out of T2 feeling pretty good!! Found my cadence pretty quickly and relaxed into an awesome run for me! Passed people all through the run, got on one girls heels who was in the wave after me, and just cruised. Passed two girls in my wave, just blew 'em away! (felt great doing that!) Saw a girl in my wave just ahead of me starting the downhill, and she hesitated and really slowed herself down, so I took advantage and just nailed it. A quick look over my shoulder half way down the straight away to the finish, and she was way back! Felt just awesome during and after the run..legs great, cardio great! I want more of these days! Some donkey yelling going on as I passed on way to finish! (thanks guys!!) Oh, and saw Donna and Deanna on the run!
What would you do differently?:

maybe could have given it a bit more, as I wasn't completely toast at the finish.
Post race
Warm down:

went over to visit with DJ, Craig, Matt (Craigs friend),Peter K and then grabbed some clothes to put on. DJ had to help me get dressed as I was a shivering mess!! Knees were knocking, lips purple...good look for me! Was able to cheer Deanna, Donna, Amyjo,Pete (tall tri dad pete)to the finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Did I mention the rain and cold??? If not, it poured for my whole bike and rained some on the run. Really lost time on the bike by slowing so much on the turns and big curves.

Event comments:

love this race! all of the Donkey participation and support makes it really great!

Showing off the six pack abs - nice!

Great race PJ - being cautious on the bike and you still smoked everyone in your AG.

The eats afterwards were good too.
