A treadmill no less. THIS IS NO JOKE. I REALLY WENT THRU THIS YESTERDAY.

I went running on the treadmill for lunch and towards the end of my runs I like to do fartleks. Stupid treadmill got stuck at it's max 10 (6:00min per mile). Thats not too bad but not good when you expect the darn thing to do as instructed (slow down or stop), that's a different story. I desperately kept pressing the "slow down" button but the belt's speed would not budge from max.
The screen read "Cannot maintain desired speed". I hit the "cool down" button (which quickly brings you down to about half the speed you are presently doing), but the same stupid "Cannot..." message came back up (I swear, it felt like it had just gained even more speed).

By this time, I'm doing that "I'm gonna smash my face" run that tells everyone else "OH, HE'S ABOUT TO SMASH HIS FACE". I slammed on the "STOP" button (looks more like a PANIC button). It slowed down then shot right back up again with the same "cannot..." message. I quickly but gently got off the treadmill (with the help of the handles), and pulled the plug, went upstairs and told the front desk "THAT STUPID MACHINE ALMOST KILLED ME". The girl stared for a split second and REALLLLY wanted no to laugh. I couldn't help it either and we both burst out in laughter, we couldn't help it.
They've had trouble with treadmills recently but "not at this speed" she said.

In the end, I survived in one piece but honestly felt like that bear on a treadmill (I've lost that link - hope someone can post it again).

Once, while running on a treadmill, my foot hit the non-moving side part and I tripped. I didn't fall of the stupid thing, but I had to stop my workout because of a pulled ego.

I've had the opposite problem - get the 'mill going at a good running pace, only to have it suddenly slow down crawl.

I haven't had the misfortune of doing something like that, but last week I was going at a good clip on the treadmill, trying to look like I'm all that (big mistake) and accidently hit the stop button with one of my hands without realizing it (for some reason, the stop button is small and off the one side. Go figure.).

It slowed WAY down, and I ran into heart-rate monitor bar before I knew what happened. Yeah, I was all that.

yeah, ok, I'll share too. I was reaching for my towel while running on my treadmill at home. My foot hit the edge and I FLEW off the back. I kinda layed there stunned for about 30 seconds before I started laughing. Luckly I was at home and not at they gym. Now I always run w/ one hand or finger on the hand rail.

My gym has 8 treadmills all lined up against the back row. About a year ago I was on one in the middle of the row all 8 were being used.

Suddenly there was a power cut to the whole complex and all 8 treadmills just stopped dead, not slow and then stop just stopped dead! All 8 people hit the computer in front of them and got a shock, before bursting otu laughing.

I just wish there had been camera's coz it would have been hilarious once we all got over the shock of what had happened!

There is a guy at our YMCA who cranks the treadmill up to the highest incline, hangs on with both hands, and puts it up to a speed that he can't run without hanging on. Honestly, it makes me angry to watch. This pinhead is going to fall on his a$$ and then turn around and sue the Y. I don't know why they allow it. It's dangerous. Not only that, there are kids around and we see them playing on the treadmills often enough. We don't need them emulating THIS mental midget.

Not only that, but it is EXTREMELY irritating because you hear "clomp clomp CLOMP clomp clomp gasp clomp, trip clomp CLOMP CLOMP GASP GAG clomp gasp" the entire time. Even with headphones on you can't help but hear him tripping and falling and clomping all over the treadmill. I've honestly tried to figure out just what he thinks he is accomplishing with this, but unless he's trying to completely dehydrate himself (he also sweats all over the place), induce a heart attack, while training for the clumsy oaf Olympics...I'm at a loss.

So don't feel bad! Some people do it on purpose!

A radio announcer in Adelaide mentioned his mum who was on holidays joined him at the gym. She tried to take of her jumper whilst still walking on the treadmill. She tripped and fell onto the treadmill next to her, knocking the next to her off of her treadmill as well... I was lol-ing the rest of the way to work!!!
