Total Time = 4h 47m 21s
Overall Rank = 36/900
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 6/33
Pre-race routine:

Stayed at a campground right beside the start line so it was great not to have to worry about forgetting something. Although I forgot my helmet at home so I "had" to buy an aero helmet! ;) I really did forget it though, but it all worked out good in the end!
Event warmup:

Good swim warm up, but they started a bit late so it was more of a practice swim. Then just stand around with Chris (hazmaster) and Ronin, and said Hi and good luck to Dan (crazypop) and Leah (Drleah).
Swim
  • 34m 53s
  • 2000 meters
  • 01m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

Such a crazy swim, probably the worst I've been in yet. So many people and everyone going in different ways! Why some people can't swim straight (or close to it) is beyond me. Even on the way back people were all over the place. Finally I decided to move to the outside and swim on my own for a while. Drank quite a bit with all the shoving and arms flailing everywhere.
What would you do differently?:

Start in a different spot?
Transition 1
  • 03m 13s
Comments:

Loooong run to transition, but that was okay, I'm a runner! Was really close to bike exit so decided to put shoes on and run to exit.
What would you do differently?:

not much
Bike
  • 2h 37m 30s
  • 93 kms
  • 35.43 km/hr
Comments:

South winds started to pick up at the start of the second lap, but it made it nice coming back. Rode fairly hard, felt like I pushed more than last year but I only took 3 mins off my time.
What would you do differently?:

Try not to get sick 2 weeks before the race!
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Good transition, I'm happy
What would you do differently?:

not much
Run
  • 1h 30m 39s
  • 21 kms
  • 04m 19s  min/km
Comments:

Took a long time to get my running legs. Kept my cadence up and tried to find my pace, but it wasn't there today. My running has definitely fallen back this year.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch, chat with some people, drink water, then get a massage!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

being sick so much lately, training geared towards Ironman not a half, no proper peak/taper

Event comments:

Good race, good course, nice people, great group of racers

Took about 3 or 4 shots of you coming into T1...someone caught your attention right there as all photos you were looking to your left. You looked so relaxed and fluid.

Saw you again (without camera) close to the run turn around going into your second lap....(man you run smooth) cheered out at you but you looked deep in a zone and I think I caught you off guard..... somewhat surprised someone would know your name at that point.

Smokin fast time Jon! Well done!

Thanks Paul - I knew you were out there a few times, but sometimes I wasn't sure if people were reading my name off my number, or if I actually knew them!! But thanks for the comments and encouragement out there!

Thanks Leah - I'm starting to get excited for IMC now, can't wait to see how I hold up on a long course. I'm curious now about my wife's twin!

Amazing man, one hell of a race and you hammered it. well done. The twin thing was kind of funny and left me looking like an idiot while both Kari and Leah laughed at me....nothing new there. Great job!
