Okey dokey... who's in for this one? I did the 15k this weekend, and the water is ssssssoooooooooo low. And what water there is...is really farging cold. My joy and excitement for this race knows no bounds.

I haven't done this race since the last swimmer's itch scare though I like the race itself. I actually have that weekend open. Is the water safe this year

I've done it every year for the last 7, and I survived. I did get swimmer's itch.

I am not certain if that is a recommendation or not. I have been in close to seven car accidents over the years, and I have also survived. Not certain I am ready to test the waters again though

What I meant was if the threat of swimmer's itch is all that's keeping you from the race, you really shouldn't stress about it.

I got some itchy bumps. They looked--and felt-- like bug bites. I didn't die, and it only lasted a few days. It's not like you're getting meningitis or anything. Definitely not worth not doing/skipping a race over.

One summer I was swimming with a group of friends and we all contracted swimmer's itch.  It varied from a spot or two, to a few people needed to see a doctor for uncontrollable itching and needed prescription Benadryl.  Just had to share - I know, helpful!

That all said, is there much risk of that this year due to the colder temps?

Anyone worried can help their cause by toweling off briskly in T1.  It would be worth the extra time spent.  Toweling BRISKLY will wipe away most of the little buggers.

The year I got it it wasn't real warm. That was the only year I ended up with it, so I don't know about other years.

With the water levels what they are, I have no idea what kind of funky schtuff is going on now. WB is so low, a lot of folks docks don't even make it to the water.

FWIW, water temp was 68-69 degrees. By far and away the warmest Manitou I can recall in a long, long t ime. Probably a bit longer than 800, of course, but that's no shocker.

How did you do?  I would congratulate you, except your logs are really blank...

I am anti-log :p

I think I was 26 OA. Here's a link to my write-up: http://www.runango.com/forums/topic_show.pl?tid=115722

I did get swimmer's itch...again :p No benadryl required or anything, but it's there.

Argh! I totally got dinged for that penalty. Seriously, I walked a MILE backward after the end of the race to get the bottle. Grr.
