Total Time = 1h 27m 33s
Overall Rank = 103/149
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 7/13
Pre-race routine:

Up at 3am. Juice, bagel with PB, cottage cheese, water. Tried to go back to bed but didn't really sleep. Up for good at 5. More water, some yogurt. About 6:15 had a power bar and some sports drink.
Event warmup:

200m in the pool.
Swim
  • 07m 58s
  • 400 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

Snake swims really stink. There was a cluster of about 4 people in front of me that I knew I wasn't going to be able to get past, so I just slowed down, took it easy, and tried to remind myself that it was probably adding only 1 minute to my over all time. Don't get too stressed out over it. It is what it is.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Transition 1
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

I had the WORST possible transition spot. The LAST bike in the LAST row. Nobody had farther to run out of transition to the mount line than I did. Literally. So I'm running in my cleats since I don't know how to leave my shoes mounted on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to run faster in cleats. I also didn't get clipped in as quickly as I wanted to... that took a few extra seconds.
Bike
  • 44m 26s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.20 mile/hr
Comments:

I knew the course; it's in my neighborhood. I train on those hills.
What would you do differently?:

I could have pushed myself a bit harder, but being a poor runner I was really worried about killing my legs and making my run REALLY poor.
Transition 2
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Again, I was THE last bike in THE last rack. Nobody had further to run to their spot after crossing the dismount line than I did. That sucked. I did my best, but I'm not fast at running in my cleats so that definitely was a huge disadvantage to me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 29m 44s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Running is definitely my weakest link, but I've been working on it and I could tell I was doing better than I had before. I probably could have pushed myself a little harder, a little faster. My muscles were fine; my heart rate was up a little but not huge, and I just have this mental thing, thinking I'm a crappy runner.
What would you do differently?:

Get over my mental block and push myself harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water, ate banana, stretched a little, walked around a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not knowing exactly how hard I can push myself, and being afraid to go too hard on the bike for fear of not having anything left for the run. I don't yet know my body well enough to know how hard i can push.
