Pre-race routine:

1st tri for 2009! Worked out most of the winter, excited to see performance improvement. Eat early to start on empty stomach.
Event warmup:

Checked out the serious hardware in the transistion cage, few hundred yards of light swimming to acclimate to water, loosen shoulders.
Swim
  • 25m 27s
  • 1600 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Solid performance, hoped to be sub 30min. My navigation skills weaken when I get tired, second lap I could not swim a straight line.
What would you do differently?:

Get in a few open water swims prior to event.
Transition 1
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

I have been struggling getting the suit off the feet. There is an easy 30 seconds in there somewhere to improve.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure yet, we'll get it solved - this is part of the fun in trying to improve
Bike
  • 1h 10m 14s
  • 22 miles
  • 18.79 mile/hr
Comments:

A bit breezy, I focused on staying in aero, and keeping the cadence up. My pace seemed to be a bit off, but my plan was not to blast the bike and bonk on the run. I was trying to keep some reserve. Every tri last year I put too much into the bike for my fitness level and struggled on runs.
What would you do differently?:

Adjust my bike fit. Turns out I did have a problem, made some adjustments last week and did not have time to get another opinion on my position. My seat was too high, legs were over extended and I smoked my upper hams and glutes!
Transition 2
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

I have not worked on the 'flying dismount' not sure I am ready yet. Again there is 30 seconds of slow poking around I can correct, although my transistions are faster than last year. Damp socks from the drizzle caught me off a bit, I was slow to get them on.
What would you do differently?:

I do need some speed laces for the running shoes.
Run
  • 52m 49s
  • 6.3 miles
  • 08m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

My best run in a tri ever. I had good nutrion and hydration coming off bike giving me the energy to hold my pace to the end. Got lucky with the overcast skies, heat was not a factor.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, ran very close to my potential for the day.
Post race
Warm down:

Stood in the rain! Hit the snacks, light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The bike setup did not allow my to reach my potential for the day, but I had major gains from last year on the swim and run and exceeded my goal for the race
