I've heard that caffeine enhances performace. However, for me, even a little bit of it upsets my stomach. I do love decaf, however...but I can't say it does anything for my workouts.

Here you go, some of the references to caffeine and endurance. Make sure to read them all since opinions do vary.

For my part I'd say, "Going for a cup of coffee, anyone interested?"

Short answer...

Caffeine and Endurance sports....

Studies show it can help some people... other studies show it can hurt some people... And, these groups of people can be on both sides of the equation - hurt one time, help another.

The key issue is the diuretic effect of caffiene vs. it's stimulant effect. Where the line gets drawn varies from person to person and situation to situation.

There is no standard answer as to whether or not caffiene is a postitive or negative aspect toward performance. As for myself, it is more of a negative aspect of training or racing. I don't drink ANY caffiene products.

I'm with waskelton- it makes my tummy unhappy. plus, if I have caffine I can't stop talking. So, really, it's a gift to others that I don't drink it.

haven't tried it with training, but i bet it'd just make me feel funny and hyper. then i'd feel like crap when i trained without it. there's my two cents.

Ahem. If you need caffiene just to stay awake then obviously your not getting the right amount of sleep to perform. Not only will it allow you to kick the habit of caffiene but you'll recover so much faster with just a little extra sleep.

Lance drinks it.... So do I... So when do I get fast? J/K

Worked at Starbucks during college. I got to the point I couldn't drink coffee or milk for almost six months. The thought of either made me want to puke. I no longer work at Starbuck's but I've gone back to drinking coffee, half-caf for the most part and only latte's on special occassions. I knew people who could have 11 shots of espresso and 3 redbulls per day. The red bulls were because they no longer felt the effects of caffeine without it.

In my personal non-scientific opionion. If you are a coffee drinker 3-7 days before a race so you can feel the full effects of the caffeine on race day. You body becomes tolerant to caffeine just like any other drug.

Because caffeine speeds up your heartrate it slows down your recovery. Ive heard caffeine is good for endurance, but you have to be careful of dehydration.
