Married 25 years this July.  2 kids, about to have an empty nest (except for the dogs, who are old, and the cats who don't really count, at least not for me). But not to hijack the original question, but I am curious about the idea of "knowing what it's like to be married".  I think there are so many different ways that marriage can go, that it is hard to know what the OP is really looking for.  In some ways, I could reverse the question, since I married mrs gearboy right out of college, and neither of us ever lived independently before that - so what is it like to be young and single? I suspect that all the never married/committed relationship people would have differing experiences to answer that. (Ironically, my oldest just graduated college.  Her last boyfriend got engaged and is getting married soon.  Her comments were along the lines of "dodging that bullet" and "I can't imagine getting married this young!")

ebshot - 2009-06-11 1:06 PM Married for 10 years.   3 kids in tow - 8, 6, 5 (girl, boy, boy).

I should say though that Bryan is in the Navy and away a lot.  So we have been in a relationship for 11 years but he hasn't been here for most of it!  I'm not sure we would make it if he was home every day!

My first marriage was like that.. i was in the navy and got out.. then we actually had to spend ALOT of time with each other and realized that we didn't really get along that well :D

what sub is your hubby on? I was on the USS Pennslyvania

Bry just transferred off the USS Philadelphia. (has to have shoulder surgery then back to sea duty).  He's been on the Alabama, Miami, and City of Corpus Christi (in Guam).  Good times.

Is the Pennsylvania in GA or WA?

I think we are both concerned that we won't like each other when he retires!  But, he can't afford to divorce me, especially with one special needs child!

smarti - 2009-06-11 4:52 PM 18 days away from my divorce becoming final. Been dating a great guy for a couple of months, which got serious fast. Not to encourage (another) hijack, but does anyone have an opinion on how long after a divorce one should realistically wait before embarking on another serious, long-term (as in already talking marriage, kids, etc.) relationship?

This is a personal question which only you can answer.  For what it's worth, Shannon and I were both separated (not yet divorced) when we met through BT (via Cup of Joe).

To answer the original question - I am very happily married to a wonderful woman and we have four kids between us.

Has there been a poll regrading how many BTers are single, divorced or married?  Seems like there are very few married folks around here so just wondering.  I feel like I am in the minority.  In fact, I am thinking of lobbying for my own month - Married Full-Time Working Mom Triathlete Appreciation Month.

(Oh, and when I say married, I include those people who aren't allowed to be legally married but should be!)

I'll second that effort after I finish my first tri on Sunday!  But shouldn't our spouses and kids (I have 4) do it for us...looks better that wayLaughing

single.  still in love with the Mural Painter, though we broke up 4 months ago.

no interest in dating. to me it seems this is just a time we need to go through, and we will be together again at some point in the future.

how long can i do this before it gets all Miss Havisham?

Good luck and enjoy your first Tri!!!

Since I started this "poll thread without a poll" I think I will add a few things:

First, I did not intend it to be a poll.  I was asking if there was a previous poll.  Sorry for the confusion.

Second, the reason behind my interest was that I felt that I was in the minority.  I probably should have opened a thread asking how many other married, full time working moms are here in BTland.  I am struggling with finding some sort or balance in my life right now.  (I will start another thread for this.)

Third, I meant in no way to disparage anyone or leave any categories out.  I really appreciate the diversity and wide range of folks that are here.  I did notice that there was no "Married and Dating" responders.

And last, a little about me.  I have been married to Brad for 11 years but we have been together for 19 years.  (We lived together for the first 8 years before marriage.)  We have 2 kids, 2 dogs and a cat who thinks he is a dog.
