Pre-race routine:

Drank a bit of water and had a smoothie.
Event warmup:

Did some stretching and warm up runs.
Run

Comments:

Had problems starting timer on Garmin. Started fast and maintained pace for first KM. Breathing hard after 1st KM. Basically ran out of gas at 2Km mark and slowed down. About 5 people passed me at that point. Breathing settled down at about 3.5 Km and found enough energy to pick up the pace over the last KM and sprint to the finish line. Forgot to stop the Garmin at the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely pace myself better and do more training runs in the afternoon/evening to get used to the heat.

Warm down:

No warm down, just a fast trip to the washroom.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Choose wrong top for this race. Too tight fitting for the hot weather. Started way too strong at the beginning and paid the price for it later in the race. Better pacing practice needed.

Event comments:

Very well organized race. Could not believe the amount and quality of the food and drinks made available after the race.
Will run the 10K next year and invite friends to join (just for the food!)
