Artemis - 2009-10-02 2:40 PM Looks like I am deferring until next year (glad they moved the deferment deadline!).  I'm having gall bladder surgery sometime in the next two weeks and won't be able to run after that for 4 - 6 weeks.  No fall marathons for me this year.

Damn, sorry to hear about that Jen.  Heal up quickly.

I ended up doing 27 at the Ragnar Relay last weekend.  Three legs of 9.2, 8.9 (actually a combined pair of 4.1 and 4.8 since our 1st runner was a no show and I picked up that leg of his), 8.9.  Best part of it was that combined time I would have BQ'ed.

My only real long run is this weekend and will be the longest thing I've run since July (nothing over 10-ish since then).  Oh, right .... it's another marathon!

Is that the amount of time it is going to take us to get through DC traffic on a Friday?

Did everyone see they were offering this?

http://live.activeresult.com/msg/MSG-signup.tcl?event_id=32

you can have 5k splits sent out.

My wife is going to use it to track me to figure out where to see me on the course and when to meet me at the finish.

Pretty cool.

yeah - I just tried to sign up for that this morning and got an app error after clicking submit.  It might be because I got my bib via a transfer, though.  I'll keep trying.

They had this at the Houston marathon this year. So many people signed up that the system fell behind. I was hanging out with my dad after the race when he got a text that I just crossed mile 18! So, it's a cool idea, but I'd give her a good estimate of where you will be when in case it crashes like Houston's did.

There is a note there somewhere that the list of names was input on a certain day so anyone that registered after that  would not be in the tracking system.  Did you try the persons name that you got the bib from?

Strange - I just tried it again and it worked.  I was actually showing up in the search and the person I bought the bib from did not show up, so that wasn't the issue.

Looks like I'm set now though :-)

Based on the way I ran Saturday I can already tell you mine will look something like:

5k - 24
10k - 25
15k - 26
20k - 27
25k - 28
30k - 29
35k - 30
40k - 35
42k - 10

Money mouth

(But I did at least finish Baltimore with a somewhat respectable time considering no real marathon training - 3:29:40.  If I can come close to that at MCM I'll be happy).

You're a sick man Rick! Must be nice to have a running background! If you want to slow down to a 3:40 or 3:45 for some of the race I'd love to run with you.

I did something to my back last week and had 4 5 days where I couldn't do anything. I HTFU'd up on Sunday and got 13 miles in without too much pain. I'm just going to hobble through the next coupleweeks and plan on having as much fun as I can for 26.2 miles!

Imagine if I actually trained!

Traci needs someone to pace her to a 3:39.  You can always run with her (and then you guys can catch me while I'm walking after my legs quit on me around mile 22).

Ok...for the DC crowd.  Anybody know some inexpensive Italian places in Arlington?  I am staying around Crystal City next to the Pentagon.  Looking for some non-fancy italian (will have a 3 year old with me) for lunch/dinner in the area.

Good luck to everyone this weekend!!!   It was a great feeling today to finally turn the page on my workout plan to Week 18 of 18.  All the hard work is in the books!

There are a few italian restaurants on 23rd street in Crystal City, not fancy but decent places, which is a short walk from the Pentagon.  There is also an italian restaurant I have been to that is in Pentagon Row, right next to the mall, again a short walk from where you are.

If you want to drive, Alpine on Lee Highway is very good, old School Italian, fine for kids also.  Another place that is a drive is in Ballston, have heard good things about it, Tutto Bene.

LOL, just trying to avoid the cold my family seems to have this week.  Need to make it one more week...

Thanks for the suggestions!  I will check out where they are b4 we head up.

Man I hear your on the cold thing!  I have been popping Airborne's 2x a day and using hand sanitizer like every 10 minutes!  My 3 year old daughter has a cold and my next door neighbor"s" have the swine flu!  My daughter hasn't gotten the concept of covering her mouth when she coughs yet!  If I don't get sick, it will be a miracle.

Probably doesn't help that I did a "dry run" for clothing yesterday...39 degrees and I was running in a singlet.  :-)  Oh well, now I know I won't be too cold once I get moving!

Yeah I have a 3 year old in pre-school and a 5 year old in Kindergarden, they bring home every disease known to man.

Got my pre-race massage yesterday.  Race bag is mostly paced.  Car is gased up.  Carbo loading has begun.  Watched all the runners world MCM videos.  Excitement building for sure!

We will be having "11 days of Marathon" week at my house.  My wife is running NYC marathon next weekend so after returning from DC we will be flying up to NYC on Thursday and staying with good friends just outside the city.

haha we are the opposite, I am running MCM this weekend and 2 weeks later we are packing up and driving to OBX so my wife can run the Outter Banks Marathon.  I plan on having a few adult beverages while watching her race.

My pre-race massage is tomorrow.

Outer Banks is our favorite place for vacation!  Too bad it is 500 miles away from me (and in live in NC)!  We stay at the bottom of Hatteras in Hatteras Village.  Love it!  I may do OBX next year, depending on whether we do Beach2Battleship HIM.

Oh...and just a few adult beverages?   I am thinking about bringing my fuel belt to NYC on race day...and it aint gonna be HEED in there!

What's the parking like in Crystal City?   Is it relatively easy to take the shuttles to the Runners Village from that parking area?  What about getting a shuttle back to the parking lot after the race?  It's a 45 minute drive and it seems like it might be better idea to go to Crystal City and park instead of taking the Metro from Maryland.  Getting there in the morning was fine, but the line to get back home was crazy!
