Total Time = 2h 49m 2s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Clyde
Age Group Rank = 7/27
Pre-race routine:

got up a little late. was on my way by 4:40. at about the GA 400 toll i realized i forgot my infinit bottles, so i had to stop at a quickie mart for gatorade.
Event warmup:

rode my bike from the car to transition. ran for about 10 minutes then got in the water for about 10 minutes.
Swim
  • 28m 28s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

slower than i would have thought, but people are saying that the course was long. i did a little over 26:00 last year and i felt like this was the same or better. in any case, i didn't use up a lot of energy on the swim and came out of the water feeling fresh.
What would you do differently?:

not much. i still need to work on sighting. i did a lot of zig zagging and ran in to a few people.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

would have like for this to be closer to 1:00
What would you do differently?:

practice transitions more.
Bike
  • 1h 16m 43s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.44 mile/hr
Comments:

okay bike. i haven't had a lot of bike time this year, so i can't expect much. i never really pushed the pace b/c i always had the run in the back of my mind. in hindsight, lack of bike training was probably my biggest limiter. it kept me from pushing on the bike, and caused me to struggle on the run.
What would you do differently?:

more bike time earlier in the year.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

acceptable. 1:00 transitions in an oly are cool w/ me.
Run
  • 61m 22s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

okay up until mile 4. it was all i could do to keep running to the water stop at the beginning of the dam. then the hill going back in killed me. my legs were gone, and the will was gone soon after.
What would you do differently?:

train more. suck it up.
Post race
Warm down:

got some food and beverage and tried to sit and relax a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my goal at the start of the season was to do this race in about 2:40, but its been hard to keep my training consistent. the past 3 weeks were very light on training and heavy on household priorities. moving followed by going to the beach limited the time i had to workout. plus, the wifey broke her leg skimboarding the second day at the beach, so that put the skids on any workouts i had planned while i was there. so basically i came into saturday with a weeks worth of fried seafood and miller lite in my belly, and no miles in my legs. what can you do, right? i'll get'em next year.

Event comments:

another good ga multi sport race.

Don't beat yourself up.  That is one of the toughest 10K runs I have done.  Good Race.

Wow, we had twin races!  All the same stuff even the house hold things (except for your wife's unlucky run in with a skim board).  Yes, that hill on the way back was just not right.  Very funny.  I bet we both put in more saddle time over the next month or so.    Overall, it sounds like you had a good day.  You will knock it out on the next one.

Nice race.  I do not know how you guys do transitions so fast.   I think it is actually kind of funny that mine are so slow, especially when my daughter watches a race and yells at me the whole time I am in transition because everyone is zipping in and out except me.  Maybe you could help me with them sometime.

I hate to hear about your wife's leg.  What a bummer! I hope it did not completely ruin her vacation.  If nothing else, it makes a good story for the future though.

Fried seafood and Miller Lite sure sounds good about now!

Congrats on your day - it looks like you made the most out of an interrupted workout schedule. On to the next one!

Hey, with all the personal stuff going on before this race, I think you did a great job.
And I agree with the comments about that "damn" run. Tough last leg.

Even with all the life stuff, you still got out there and started/finished the race.  Great job.  Good to see you out there.
