Batavia, Illinois

Multisport Madness Triathlon Club
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 28m 26s
Overall Rank = 160/483
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 34/67
Pre-race routine:

PB and Jelly sandwich at 4 am

Forgot to bring extra water to drink in the transition area. Was pretty thirsty while waiting for the swim
Swim
  • 06m 41s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out great passed 4 people by my 5th stroke.

Got to the first turn and forgot to turn and swam 10 yards passed it.

On the second lap I got pinched inside next to the cement island a couple of quick stokes and I was out of that group.

Usually the plan is to go slow and steady but since you get to walk in the shallow water between the first and second lap, I decided to push my swim harder than I usually would

Transition 1
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

had a good tranition stall and my transition went well (I really wanted to stop and pee when I went by the bathroom)
Bike
  • 45m 3s
  • 14.7 miles
  • 19.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Put my head down and started pedaling. After the first climb right out of t1 I put my head down and started chugging. Before I knew it I was at mile 7 then the wheels came off a little. For about 2 miles I lost my steam and got passed by 4 or 5 bikers. Then for some reason I kicked back up again and till mile 12 when I got a nasty cramp in my right calf. As I went over the last speed bump going into t1 my front tire goes flat.

Overall the bike went ok but could have been better

What would you do differently?:

not use the ultra thin tires. Need to work on longer runs on the bike.

remember to bring your better water bottle. I could not get a good sized drink from it
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

For some reason as I rack my bike I did not like the way it was sitting so I took it out and turned it around. Also took 10 extra seconds to take a good drink.
What would you do differently?:

drink more during the bike, remember how to rack the bike
Run
  • 00m
  • 4.1 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Came out of the t1 ok but a little slow. I wish I knew my mile splits so I could see what’s going on with my run times I think I ran 9/8/8/7 or at least that that’s what it felt like. I loved the signs at the end of the race because I needed something to get my mind off what I was doing
What would you do differently?:

Needs to get my run times up to speed faster should be running 7/7:15 miles
