Anyone doing the Lake Minnetonka Tri this year? I've done it three times but am volunteering this year -- 1st time ever.

If I see any obvious BT apparel I'll stop by and say hi. If you have any questions about the course, fire away.

I will be there. Looking forward to it.

My wife is volunteering along with her entire high school dance team that she coaches.

I'll be there, first tri ever.
My Son was done born 3 weeks ago so my training has  been suffering, so needless to say my expectation are not high but still looking forward to finishing!

So look for the clueless guy standing off to the side watching what everyone else is doing so I don't embarrass myself

Congrats, jaredfore -- If you know what you'll be wearing, or can let me know your bike model/color, I'll look for you and try to stop in and say 'hi' before the race.

Training?  You don't need training for this sport.  Heck, my training has been almost nonexistant for about a month and a half now.  *headdesk*  You'll be fine.  I did the OWS clinic that the RD held a couple weeks ago.  We didn't swim much of the course, but the lake there seems pretty nice.

Like the offer above, if you have any questions about anything, look for me at the race.  Tall beanpole of a guy with most of my hair shaved off pretending I'm not nervous.

the problem with training shortfalls is I had zero "base" to start with.  I could not run 1/2 mile without walking, I think I did about 7-8 miles on the excersice bike in the gym at work (which I was suprised to find out is no where near 7-8 miles in the "real world"), and the first swim I did I hung on the wall for dear life after 50 yards.  So I have come a long way already just not as far as I would have liked, but its okay have to start somewhere right?

Thanks for all the offers, would love any advice or friendly faces.  I think I will have a decent cheering section but they know less about Tri's than I do.

I will have on lighter blue tri top (Zoot I think).  I picked up a used QR sleeveless wetsuit.  As far as the bike its all dark grey/black Specialized Globe hybrid that I have modified a little.  I put road tires on it and my silver mountain bike bullhorn handlebar.

yep, weather forcast is looking real nice

okay here is my first round of questions (I promise to not have to many)

1) Do people worry about flats on the bike?  I have looked at pictures of races and don't see many with a pump or O2 (or a spare tube).  Is that something you just roll the dice on and hope it doesn't happen?

2) I am one of those poeple who HAVE to wear socks, is there usually a way of getting your feet cleaned off after getting out of the water and before the socks go on?  I have seen people with buckets of water but that seems over the top.  I suppose if the swim exit was in a real sandy area maybe.  I don't think Mtka has that anyways.

Thanks in advance, I'll post up my bib number after the pick up tonight as well.

Flat on the bike? That's pretty much a personal decision. If you out to 'just finish' the event, by all means bring a spare tube/pump. After all, how can you finish if you don't have repair equipment?! If you're out for a PR or podium if you get a flat you're going to get neither a PR nor a podium so don't bring any equipment and take the sag wagon home.

Socks? I'm generally not a socks guy in Oly and shorter but put 'em on for HIM and longer. When I do use socks I just wipe my feet off on my towel, and have my socks rolled up (see the BT training video) so I can just roll them on...rather than pulling them on - no sense fighting wet feet and dry socks.

I also bring flat changing stuff.  Do you know how to use it?  Sorry, I don't mean to insult   But, bringing it is only half the battle!  I'd at least try changing my tire and if it goes okay at least I can finish.

I like using a spare water bottle for feet washing.  A quick squirt has proven easier than the bucket, wiping, etc.  After squirting your feet, make sure to stand on your towel though.   Can you possibly wear no socks on the bike (do you have cycling shoes)?  I go sockless on the bike and put on socks for the run, since by then my feet are dry usually.

I bring enough stuff to change a tube... a CO2 cartridge and one tube. If I have any more problems than that, then finishing the race wasn't mean to be. I also tend to bring a little more equipment and leave it in the back of my SUV, mainly because I have bad dreams about getting there and realizing that something real basic on my bike needs to be fixed. But in 8 tri's I've never really had to do much, plus there is usually a bike shop tent onsite doing pro bono work for the PR value of it.

I wear socks. One swipe of my feet on a towel, and I roll the socks on. I can personally attest that the swim exit for this tri has no sand or debris. it should be relatively easy to keep your feet sand-free for the most part. Even if there was some, most of it wears off on the run to the bike.

Thanks for the help everyone...
I forsure want to finish so I will bring the back up gear.  Yes I know all to well how to change out a flat so should be good there.  I used to do a lot of mountain biking (but its been years) so my legs are not as good as then but I remembered how to work on the bike at least.  I do have my mountain clipless pedals and shoes.

I did a practice swim/Transistion/bike the other day and I just used a towel quick to wipe down the feet and that seemed to work okay.

I am getting excited.  Decided I want to try and keep it under 2 hrs if I can, hopefully that will be possible!!

I slacked and missed the registration for this one...but am wondering if there are any ladies out there who signed up but won't be able to make it to the race tomorrow (but could still pick up their stuff today)?

Maybe we could work something out...

Was out of town today so I couldn't pick up my packet.  I'll be in my orange tri top, tall guy, very short hair.  If I don't see (or recognize) anybody, good luck tomorrow folks!

Well, that certainly wasn't my race.  Ugh.  It wasn't long into the bike portion that I would enjoy the race more if I didn't push so much and just finish without worrying about my finish time.   That made things much more pleasant.

How'd everyond do/feel?

Results are up.  Looks like the swim wasn't as far as they thought.  I certainly wasn't swimming as fast as the results indicate, and I doubt there were 7 people who swam 1:05 100s or better.

Oops.  This is Aaron, not Sarah.
