Anyone else doing this race?  I'm signed up for the Olympic and my wife will be doing the Sprint.  This will be our first race of the year.

One thing that surprised me was the mandatory bike and helmet inspection.  What's the purpose of that?  You can get your bike/helmet inspected beginning July 1 even though the race isn't until July 26.

I'm in for the Olympic. Should be a fun race. The mandatory checks are so that the race company can "cta" and for liability purposes. There are lots of shops around that can do it and it takes less than a minute. And if you like bike shops as much as most, it's just another chance to go look at some toys.

Tyrell - 2009-06-16 9:30 PM ART?  CTA?  What does that stand for?

ART - Active Release Therapy - I will let someone else explain what it is...

CTA - same as "CYA" Cover their A** - Provides for an affirmitive defense against negligence in a court of law....

I wouldnt worry too much about the inpections.  They don't check the stickers.

Active Release Technique -
"ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles."

I'm signed up for the sprint. I was thinking about the Oly, but this is my first race of the season and even though I could do the swim distance, I haven't put in the swim time that I wanted to in order to feel comfortable and would probably struggle at the Oly swim distance.

I'm in for the Sprint. I wanted to do the Oly, but after sitting out of tris for 3 years and just starting my training again this month, I figured I should stick to the shorter distances. And after this mornings workout, it's a good thing that I'm looking at the Sprint. I grew up in a small town about 20 miles north of Waco, so it's like racing on my home turf... even though I haven't lived in that area for over 15 years. While living in that area I ran a lot of 5K and 10K's along this races run course. I will say, I'm really glad I won't have to run the hills of Cameron Park like the Oly people will!

Do you know what the Sprint bike course will be? It's not listed on the race site.

You forgot to metnion that ART is the most intense pain you'll feel this side of child birth or kidney stones but well worth it.  It cured my ITBS in about 2 weeks.

Does anybody know if the swim course is open to the public now. I know it's the Brazos River, but do they allow swimming there before race day?

regarding the swim course.....yes it is open for swimming.  But watch out for boats, skiiers, fishermen, etc. Theres usually at least something like that out there especially in the afternoon.

Regarding the bike course, i would imaging it starts out following the same as the olympic route, but with a turnaround somwhere around halfway.  But i could be wrong.
