Up at 4. Bagel w/peanut butter and coffee on the way to race site.
Event warmup:

Ran for a few minutes on the paved trails while waiting for my swim start.

Felt pretty good for most of the swim. Still over a minute slower then 2 years ago.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on improving my swim times..as opposed to just maintaining.

Had a few stomach issues early in the bike and started having a pity-party. At about 10 miles in I told myself to HTFU and get over it! And I did. After that, I had a much better ride. Rode conservatively in hope of having something left for the run (why bother right?)
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder on the bike.

Ugh. I was a bumbling idiot. I couldn't get my cycling shoes off b/c my hands were sweaty. Wasted time that cost me 4th place.

Learn to mount/dismount w/ shoes on the bike.

Felt fairly good coming off the bike. I was surprised to see how slow I was at the mile markers. I really tried to pick it up over the second half of the course and really dug deep for the last mile. I should have been running the first 2 miles at the effort and pace I did the last mile!
What would you do differently?:

I have got to learn how to really push myself on the run. I really believe that a large part of what is holding me back on the run is mental.

Plus, I should have worn my garmin to help with pacing.

Your times seem great to me, esp on hilly course.

Re the swim: you can't rally compare swim times from year to year, due to inaccurate buoy placement. Better to compare how you stack up against your age group peers, i.e, you were 3rd in the age group for the swim split two years ago? (I always save female age group results on my computer for races I do year to yaer, since setup deletes them - let me know if you want to see any from lake norman, duke, etc.).
