JeepFleeb - 2009-06-18 11:55 AM In... for the swim.

Then I'll spend the rest of the morning drinking beer and watching everyone else bike and run.

I am racing... but I wonder if I can change my registration to what JeepFleeb has in mind! Laughing

Can you still qualify for Kona if you only do the swim part? I did 60 miles today from 8-11:30 and it WAS HOT! At least I now know how much water and salt I need for next weekend!

Unfortunately, I am making the drive from Houston on Saturday morning... 6am - west by northwest bound with the hammer down!  I hope to be pulling into the parking ot of the host hotel no later than 3...

Question for the BSLT vets...    The racers meeting on Saturday (4:00 pm) is that meeting mandatory?  On the detailed event schedule, it lists the pros meeting at 3pm and then the regular joes at 4... between the two it lists mandatory.  Is that just for the pros or the AG'ers as well?  I may leave Houston earlier if it is mandatory.  I don't want to risk missing it.

Also... Do they allow you to swim the course on Saturday afternoon/evening?  Was hoping to get in the water and splash around a bit.

Thanks ~ good luck and see ya on the course!

From what I remember, the meeting was NOT mandatory.  If you read the stuff on the website, you should know everything.  I felt like it was a repeat, but wanted to make sure.

Yes, you can swim in the lake on Saturday.

In the "mandatory" meeting, they carefully explain that drafting is not allowed and if you get caught, you'll get a time penalty.

Okay, time for the important question...what about food?  Anyone interested in a BT get together for dinner Saturday night?  Our options are Olive Garden, Johnny Carino's, and Orlandos.  I personally recommend Orlando's.  I like to eat the local stuff, someplace different that I can't get in my own city, but I'm game for wherever.  No matter what, I'm sure the italian places will be busy and I'm not sure about reservations but I can look into it.  In the past, we've generally just gathered up after the meeting and then head out to eat. There are two Orlando's, the one on Indiana is closer to packet pick-up/meeting/host hotel.  The one on Ave. Q is further out, but many may be staying in hotels along Q and perhaps being away from the loop wouldn't be as crowded.  Carinos and OG are both on Slide near the loop.

I'm down for the Ave Q Orlando's.  It's no where near as crowded as the one on Indiana race-eve.

Reservations are probably needed for Orlando's on Q. It's less than a block down the road from my brother's house where I'll be staying, and his roommates said it gets packed on Friday/Saturday nights. Even more so with a race in town.
