Just 3 or so weeks for this event.

Who's in? who's out?  First time at this venue - any tips?  I'm from Riverview and don't train the CLW/StPete area.  Tell me what to look out for. And especially - what sort of thing should I really come prepared for?  crowds, # H2O stations, hills (bridges), etc

I'll be there but not racing.  The wife called this one (we have a newborn and an 8 year old so we trade off watching them while the other races).  I got St. A's and she got this one.

3 nice size bridges to climb. If the run course is the same as the sand key race it will be part on the beach, but don't quote me on that.

How bad are the bridges?  Will that include the bigger one near downtown CLW?
I know last yr's got cancelled due to a tropical storm, but is the water usually deep/clear or otherwise?  2 weeks and I'm beginning to freak out - haven't been swimming much lately.

This is my first year doing MPM, but I did Sand Key back in the fall (pretty much same course). The first 2 bridges are not to bad if you are use to hills/bridges. I've heard the 3rd one is a beast. You can check out course map on the MPM webpage. As for the swim, its in the Gulf.

Oh you are gonna love the bridges...if you love to climb, that is!  The third one is new...and it IS a beast.  The rest of the course though...very flat and fast...very enjoyable.  This will be my fourth MPM.  I always look forward to it.

See you all out there.  Can't wait!

I rode the course yesterday...fun!!  The bridges will be good and challenging.  The new Belleair Causeway bridge is quite the misleading b**ch!!   She doesn't look all that impressive, but as you're cranking, you realize...hmmm...I'm not even halfway yet!  The incline tapers off at the top so you can't see all the way up as you're riding.  Just something to keep in mind.  It was a great view though, and a really fun course to ride.  The Gulf Blvd part will be SUPERFAST.  Pete and I held 23 through there yesterday with not even close to race effort.  So get ready for a fast fun bike course!

OK, recognizing BTers...well, that's the tough part.  For me, most people recognize me by the IM tat.  But if you have BT tri gear, that's one way, or if people know what kind of tri suit you usually wear (parrj in a TriGators suit usually...me in the usual Jaggad white/black/red...etc.).  Other than that, usually we'll pick a place to have a "BT meetup area" if there are enough of us.  Any suggestions anyone?

There will be a pretty big group of us coming down from UF, so there will be many racers wearing TriGator uniforms. I'll be the one with the Cannondale TT bike. The Sand Key staging area is pretty small so it won't be hard to find people.

Just 'drove' over the new Bellair bridge over the 4th for the first time- so that's pretty cool that you'll be riding your bikes over it for the tri!  It is a great view- we're hoping they build a marina close by to it.

I'm hoping to come watch the race so if you happen to see a redhead with a Nikon camera taking pictures of you.....SMILE Laughing and come say hello!  I have to see what my husbands plans are for us this weekend though- I know we're staying at our boat this weekend and that's in Palmetto so won't be as close to the race as if we were home in Clearwater.  It's going to depend I guess if he's planned anything for us or if he doesn't want to get up at the crack of dawn himself to go watch a triathlon if he minds me and the kids doing so.  I really REALLY want to check out a tri because I'm thinking of planning my first race for October- Long Leaf Triathlon in New Port Richey.  Anyway here planning on doing that tri?  Please say YES!!! Wink   Christine

Yes, I'll do the sprint. Its a collegiate race so again be there with TriGators.

I'm considering the Longleaf Olympic if my marathon training is on track. I've heard this is a time-trial start for the swim, so very good for beginners..

LOL -  dbc, I like your comment! but pls, let's keep this thread for Morton Plant.  hehehe!!!

Back to Morton Plant - I was in Pinellas Cty today and tried to pick up my packet at Ride N Roll (yes I know it's not until Thursday but I was in the area) - I gotta say, what an amazing store!  Don't expect the usual here, this is an all out - unique items store.  The owner (I believe his name is Frank) was super coool.   U gotta visit the store and you'll fall in love.

www.ridenrollcyclery.com  aweosme place: Look, Scott, Louis Garneau... 1st class on everything.  Gotta stop by and support it.

Wife and I went to Ride N Roll to register. Nice place, must say. Not looking forward to those bridges, dragging 240 lbs up and down is going to burn. But I have heard its a beautiful view from the tops of those bridges, I hope to take it all in before slaloming down.
