Do I get more sympathy if one of them is bleeding?  Prolly not, huh?

My run sucks so I'd really want to work on my speed at least a couple of times between now and then but I'm afraid to put my running shoes on!  They were CRAZY lubed with vaseline but it didn't help past 1.5 miles or so.  Any other suggestions?

New shoes.. I don't think you should have to lube anything up.

I signed up a few days ago and am nervous! I did the Bridgeland Triathlon last weekend (my first tri!) and had a great time, and now I'm upgrading to the Olympic for Clear Lake Int'l. I've been training for the marathon and did (half) the MS 150 this year, so hopefully I'll be ready if I hit the pool this weekend and keep up my regular training.

BTW - why is this race called International? Is that some weird Texas thing? (I'm from Michigan and I don't always get the Republic references all the time).

Brit,

I'm also new so someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it is called 'International' since it is the distance used for Olympic and international tri's.

It's the distance that is used in the Olympic and the ITU. Legally, you can't really label your race with Olympic, so they use International instead. It's just the label of the distance (1.5k/40k/10k), just like Ironman and Half Iron man. If you're not working with Ironman you can't label your race as a Half Ironman.

Brit,

We have a group that will be doing open water swim practice at 288 Lake on Sunday 8/16 ~ if you would like to join us?  8-8:30ish and there is all distances to swim ~ beats the pool

Check the OWS 288 Lake thread and if you need a map or would like to meet us on the NW side and car pool, let us know.  Just another option available.   Good luck ~ see ya on the course at Clear Lake...

So - has anybody been to a packet re-sell before?  Is it going to be CRAZY?  Is it first come, first serve???  I think they said it starts at 6:30, will I need to get there early?  Do you they automatically put you in your AG or can one register for Athena/Clyde?

I'm just full of questions Smile

They will put you where ever you want to be put. Someone signed up and didn't make it to packet pick up so they may as well sale their spot to someone else.

and I would get there 30-45 minutes early... I would think that would be good, but then again I have never seen or participated in a resell thingy.  Good luck & I hope you get in (Justin P. too!)

My plan is to get there early as well.  I need to leave before traffic gets bad.  The drive from my house to Clear Lake is UGLY on a Friday afternoon.  The girls and I will probably leave here around 3.

The olympic is the main event, and I'm pretty sure has the most people in it, so I'm sure it will. Plus it's a simple course.

I usually do not warmup prior to race but been told that's not real smart and should get in water for 5 min for some stroke work. What do you do for a warm-up?

I always get in the water for a warm up before the race.  Even if it's just 50 meters it's good for me to get a feel for the water before the race.  It also calms me down Smile
