Pre-race routine:

Kelly dropped me off about an hour early at the start area. This is not a triathlon. No reason to be there so early. Felt bored and kind of dumb waiting for others to arrive.
Event warmup:

Leaning on my bike trying to look cool. Fail. Schmize and Coredump showed up and I talked with them for awhile. Good guys and really good bikers.

Comments:

This is a good test of IM fitness. Started out as a rough ride for me. Rear wheel cut out was rubbing badly and I didn't have a multi tool on mke. Also caused my rear wheel to scream like a tortured cat while climbing. Was able to make it to the first aid station and the REI guys saved my ride. Very thankful to them and will give them repeat business in the future. Rest of ride was as much about mental toughness as well as physical. Race info highly suggested using a 27 tooth cassette as a minimum. I went with a 25 and paid dearly. When I do it again :) I will go with a 27 or better yet my roadie with a triple.
What would you do differently?:

Better gearing and check bike beforehand.
Post race
Warm down:

Struggled across finish line and shortly after seeing my family I proceeded to eat and drink everything in sight. Easilly replenished the 6,500 calories my Garmin claimed I burned.

Event comments:

They had the best after event activities I have ever witnessed at an event. Worth the money alone.
Best part of the race was meeting up with all the way awesome B.T'ers after. I'm not even going to try and name them all because I'll miss someone for sure. What a great group of people.
Special thanks to my sherpa Kelly for being there and doing great and my really awesome kids for hanging in for the whole weekend and never complaining once.

Nice work!  When I was grinding away in my little part of WI I was thinking of you guys.  Glad I only went half the distance... And REALLY glad I chose to ride my roadie with the triple.  Ha ha.

Good to meet you the night before, and then to run into you a few times during the event!

I rode with a 27, and there were a few times there even that didn't feel like enough.  Heh.  I didn't know better the first time I did HHH a couple years ago and used a 23!  I don't know how I survived that.

Tough conditions out there with the heat and humidity.  Solid prep/training for IMWI.  Race day will be much easier than this weekend.

I can't believe how the heck you even did that with your cassette setup!  You've got to be as strong as an ox to accomplish that.

Thanks for yelling at me at the end!
