Age Group = 2024
Age Group Rank = 7/13
Pre-race routine:

Woke at 4Am, had a cup of rice and 3 eggs and some water. Got to the race site at 5:30, set up transition, just took it easy waiting for the race start.
Event warmup:

Didnt get a warm up at all, forgot my earrings in and had to run up to Sandra and drop them off, by the time i got back to the water it was almost time to go.
Swim
  • 35m 26s
  • 2187 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

Wow, what an aggresive swim, I started on the far right, in a large group, so the first 200M were quite a bit slower, as there was a lot of swimming over/being swam over, kicking and so on. Managed to swim on my own from about 900M to the last 200 where i caught a large group and was back in the washing machine. Overall it was a great swim, everything was going right.
What would you do differently?:

Get myself in a less dense spot, would have been faster if I didnt have to fight.
Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

Had trouble getting my wetsuit over my chip and clipping in at the mount line was a bit of a pain for some reason
What would you do differently?:

practice flying mounts
Bike
  • 2h 39m 33s
  • 57.04 miles
  • 21.45 mile/hr
Comments:

Great bike, the first lap felt easy and relaxed while at a good pace, worked hard on the second lap, was getting tired when i finally came into transition
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

It was alright, no huge difficulties
What would you do differently?:

nothing, except maybe learn flying dismounts and get tri shoes.
Run
  • 1h 37m 9s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 07m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

felt good coming off the bike... took the first 8K fairly easy, then picked it up from there, finished off as strong as I could with barely anything left in the tank
What would you do differently?:

More running in training
Post race
Warm down:

FOOD!! Massage and a cold lake... It was all good

What limited your ability to perform faster:

More swim and run training needed.

Well what a great day!! My first half was a complete success, I could not have asked for better really! Under 5 hours was what i was really hoping for, so happy that it happened.

Definitely gonna work the swim and run a little more... Maybe time for a tri bike! (Yeah right, poor student)

Hope everyone had a great day!

Congratulations!! Sounds like it was a fast day for many! It was my first HIM too, and I was hoping to break 6:00 (did a 5:43). A lovely course. You smoked it. Nicely done!!

(Editing to add: I'd like to have a tri bike too!! I was wondering if I would be one of the few roadies, but there were quite a few...)
