In ... and looking for housing.  I have a couple leads on some that are walking distance to transition - but choking a little on the price at >$425/night.

We stayed at the Greenbriar Inn.  It was about 6 blocks from transition and was "only" $250 per night.  It is a B&B but very nice.

C'mon...in the words of Nike.....

Just do it!!!

(the pain of missing registration will last much longer than the pain of doing the race...not to mention having to wait yet another year to do that race if you decide you absolutely want to do it... =)

Hi,

Okay now the reality of signing up for an Ironman has hit me. I am reading the race reports and thinking I don't know how much fuel I need, I don't remember how to change a flat tire and I am feeling very overwhelmed and the training hasn't even begun.

Anyone else feel this way. I will do a HIM in August so I think that will help me.

I guess I need to head back to the bike store for a refresher course.

I am still very excited.

Happy training,

Kendra

Your nutrition will come with longer rides.  Your training rides will be more or less of a nutritonal experiment and come race day you should have that figured out.  You can stick to liquids, solids, or both.  Everyone is different and you'll just have to find what works best for you.  Just practice changing flats so that you're comfortable with it if it were to happen during the IM.  Having a bike SN bag helps because you can stash extra tubes/tires/CO2's and have them if you need them.

Congrats on taking the IM plunge

I could not help but to sign up again at the expo on saturday, so Im in.  Hoping to head the 12 hour mark this time. My wife worked at the run aid station #4, so she registered on Monday, 2010 will be her first IM.  I guess our teenage kids will have to take care of us Cool for a day.

Just nailed down the housing thing today ... we lucked up with a place >1/2 mi from transition and the race course.  That said, the closer in places are definitely at a premium as we paid just over twice the normal weekly rate.  I did a lot of checking around with the different houses and found that to be not only common but the norm for Ironman week.

What's more is that there are a line of people waiting to step-in should you not take the place.  We had to wait until the family staying in the place decided whether they wanted to take the house again next year before she would offer it to us.  Since I called last week before registration opened, I was first in line.  Should I have not taken the house then the lady said that there were four families in line for the house.

I suspect that the houses out around the lake do not go as quickly ... but having three kids it was worth it to be close to the festivities and the race course in order to make it a little easier on wifey.

Point being: if you want to be able to walk to transition and/or downtown attractions then you might need to go ahead to lock in a place soon.
