Or, have you done a 3D first year event? Just wondering how smoothly I can expect a new event to go.

It's 3d so my expectations are low. That being said, I'll be doing the relay with the fiance.

On second thought, those relays are kinda spendy. Since she's getting a new bike, we'll be skipping or I'll be doing it solo.

I've done about 4-5 3D events and never had an issue. What is it about them that people seem to dislike?

Lack of response to you emails

Lack of officials on the bike course

Poor to zero security in transition

Kenny screaming as people raid transition early to get stuff out

Run courses that come up short on mileage

Sends out bad links in emails and won't admit any fault when correcting

Screwing up your timing because they didn't transfer an entry and treated it as day of sign up. (Can't fault them too bad for this one, they did let me switch events)

I will however say that Motor City was MUCH more professional this year. Enough porta potty's, volunteers, actual security, fast check in/pick up. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt for a while, they are getting better.

My observations at Big Fish

The guy left the swim start so he could run back to his truck

After the OLY was swimming, problems with the timing mat, buzzers going off

The first guy back for the run, going off somewhere because the run person was gabbing at the bike out.

Numerous people running out the wrong end of trans, the crowd yelling wrong way.  No staff person there.

People non-racers walking around inside the trans area.  I guess it a nice way to check out expensive gear!

And just as I experianced at Clarkston, tearing down of the trans area as runners are still coming in from the course.  I sat in my truck waiting to leave watching this as peoples stuff was left laying on the grass.

The last biker is in, no wait there is still more out there.

Is Kenny the guy with short cut blonde Hair?

Not sure of hair color, always has a hat on. He's about 5' 10", somewhat stocky but fit looking.

I must've just gotten lucky because I've never experienced an of those issues at a 3D event. Let's hope I get lucky again this weekend. I'll just be bummed if only 30 people show up because it's a first time event.

Back early in the year and near the end of last year I was planning on a few of these events.  However as I work for GM and am now in my 6th week of not working, the races have been cut back to one in August and one in October.

My wife was looking forward to this weekend, we love that area, but grocerys or a weekend upnorth.

Im doing this race, and 3d has its ups and downs...  racing season is fairly short here in MI so I just kind of j ump on whenever I can.

That's exactly how I feel. I'm so busy in the summer that I pick the dates that work first, then figure out which races are those weekends.

I wasn't thrilled with the wind!  I actually got off course (or did I?) at the bridge.  I wasn't sure whether to go to the right of the river (inside) or to the left (outside).  I went inside first, then a few random passersby told me the last racer went to the outside.  There were orange cones on both sides, but one set was not for our race I'm guessing.  I turned around and went the other way, losing several minutes. Grrr.  Then I got a horrible side cramp--first time ever in a race.  I still managed to pull off 3rd female overall in the Oly so it saved my not so great finish.

What did you think?  Did you sprint or oly?

I had planed to do the Oly but talked myself into the sprint, did not feel like having my first tri of the year be a 3 hour race. lol
