Unless you can simply swap rest days, it's never good to try and "make up" a workout. Just suck it up and realize that it's all part of training...

If the workout you missed is a "priority" workout, I would consider swapping it with a non-priority workout. Ie. if you missed a long run with strides, I would consider doing that over a moderate slow run.

Just my 2 cents.

Skip your next rest day and push every workout back a day until you get back on schedule.

If it was an important session, rearrange your schedule for the next few days so that a different workout gets missed. or just rearrange your rest day pattern.

You can't really make it up if you're on a full schedule, you'll do more harm than good by overtraining

Yes, you'll do more harm by overtraining, but if you took a rest day today and it was scheduled for tomorrow, you're not going to be overtraining. Just skip the next rest day as you obviously just took one.

I went to a lecture last night with Heather Gollnick... she said she doesn't always make every workout in her schedule... but she tries to make time... and gets in what she can... if she's supposed to have a long swim, but just can't make that work, she swims for as much time as reasonably possible, and then gets on with the rest of her day... she's also big on swapping workouts around... so that the schedule works for you... You don't work for the schedule... it's all about quality workouts... not quantity, or junk miles. Try to accomplish your fitness goals as best you can in the time you're allotted... I would have usually said I try to make up any missed workouts... but now, when they happen or if my planned workouts become truncated or shortened... I'm going to let it go, and enjoy the ((unintended)) opportunity to recover! Whizzzzz

I've missed some workouts lately too. I'm trying not to be too anal about it. One day does not make a loss of fitness.

I adjust my schedule the next few days to push off my planned rest day, or add an additional double, or make something longer/harder.
