cornelius300 - 2009-07-01 11:49 AM I am out now, trying out a new thing- not doing stupid things. Wife will be running in my place. The good news is I get a jump on the tour de France

I think this is a wise choice.  Like MJ said, better to heal up now and come back stronger for a kick IM next year then risk it.

I was thinking about that this morning while I ran.  Good call.

I am in TG 4...that means I can get a little farther down Peachtree before I start to die.

I'm still looking for 2 numbers (any corral) for some co-workers of mine.  If anyone has a number they are not using please let me know.  Thx!

Two questions

1) I usually ride MARTA down but since I have to work that afternoon I was going to drive down and park somewhere. I was thinking it would be better to park near the finish and MARTA back to the start OR if someone wants to give me a ride back to the start I will park up there.

2) How many are we expecting at Park Tavern? I will probably be the first to finish so I was going to go over and get a table for us.

Are you saying you're going to run down the Kenyans/Ethiopians?  Tell one of them to reserve a table.

Damn Skippy! Those Kenyans are going to see a white streak flash by about Mile 2

Looks like I'll be there too now.  A friend got hold of two numbers.  We'll be doing it "fun run" style with a T6 start, it was the start corral available.

It aught to be an interesting experience.

I'll be there too...have a sub-seeded entry but will be running in TG-6 with a friend.  If you see a barefoot runner with a black Georgia ballcap say Hi, that will be me.

Re: 1) Planning to take Marta from North Springs, so can't help there.

Re: 2) Planning to hit Park Tavern and drink a toast to everybody.  If a chair is available, cool; otherwise, I'll stand...

Funny you should say that.  A buddy of mine squeaked into the elite wave a few years back and when the race started he took off running at like a 4 min/mile pace in nothing but a Speedo, just so he could lead the race for about a half second but get his 15 seconds of fame.

I will be standing around Christ The King Church.  Stop if you want a beer!  Wife does the race every year while I take the kids up to see her run by us.

Good luck to all.

So, left side of the road?  That might be the first beer stop for me...At that point I'm hoping to still be with Karen/Lisa/Susan/other NAMC'ers...regardless, I'll be running slow, enjoying the show...

That was my 2nd 10k.  I ran it in 1:12 but I think I could have caught the Kenyans if I didn't waste time head banging to "Hey Mickey" and getting down with the Furbus "Chipandale" dancers past I-85.  That was the most fun race I have ever done and can't wait to do it next year.

I also saw the line skippers hanging around at the 3mile area.  Those people just annoy the hell out of me.  I know it's a "fun" race but come on.  You can surely walk 6.2miles and get your T-shirt just as easily as running 3.1miles.  I saw a soldier wearing a full backpack and uniform and running from the beginning.  Why belittle what he's doing in order to recieve a t-shirt.

I also saw a firefighter in full gear including an air tank out on the course.

Seriously, walk the thing, but don't cut!

I've been meaning to ask this.  I saw the PRR on one of the sports channels and I noticed that the women runners (or a few of them) had "race escorts".  What are they for and if they are that fast why don't they run themselves?

They only run a mile or two as an escort, I believe.  Someone else correct me if I'm wrong.

That makes sense.  I may be able to escort them next year for about 20yards before I'd have to give up.  Hell, I bet they can run a marathon faster than I can sprint.

At 1st I thought they were some people who just jumped in and wanted to run next to the champs or something.  I was sitting there with great anticipation waiting to see a cop just clothesline one of them for some great entertainment.  Then I saw "race escort" and figured it out.

And is there a reason they have a race escort?  Have people run out and tried to tackle the leaders?  I figured some rookie APD on a bicycle would be perfect for that job.

No, the race escort is because the women get lost in the crowd, because typically they are in the midst of some of the fast guys.  So with the race escort and the flags the run with, the race officials and media can see where they are.
