Subject: Places to Swim
I have lived in North Carolina for 20+ years and have always wondered, with all the bodies of water in the area, only a couple allow swimming. I'm originally from upstate New York and unless it has changed, if there was a body of water we swam in it. My stupid gym decided this was a good time of year to close not just the pool at one location but two for the past week. Does any body know of some covert areas to grab a quick swim?

hmmm must be Golds Gym. They closed my pool from the 10th until supposedly today. I will see if it opens.

I mapped out spots to swim at Jordan Lake once, and put them here. I also have a mailing list to swim at the one called Sneak Spot. We swim there every wed evening around 6:30pm. PM me with your email address and I can put you on the mailing list.

So sad! The thing that frustrates me about these stories is that you never get the followup. I always wonder was it drinking, heart attack, person couldn't swim, cramps, snake bite, what!!!???

hi!!
I would really like to open swim too. I have been working in a pool but want to do more triathlons with lake courses and would like to train in open water often. but I am such a beginner, i don't know where to start and i defintely don't want to go at it alone.

Of the places I have seen - Ebenezer Rec Area on Jordan Lake has the best area to swim.

There is good parking, a decent beach, bouys to swim around, etc.  If you go on Saturday or Sunday morning, before 11AM, the lake is calmer and in some cases you may find others swimming with you if you swim back and forth across the bouys just beyond the roped swim area.

The distance from bouys - end to end - looks to be about 250 meters.  Go back and forth a couple times, hop on your bike and ride the lake, (about 20 miles) and you've got yourself a decent workout.
