So...currently I have a couple books going...

Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson... failed expedition to summit K2 leads a man to begin building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan... well written

Classic SF:  Canticle for Liebowitz... post-nuclear holocaust vision... one of the best SF novels I have ever read

What are you reading?

I have had lots of questions about how my vacation went....well, I read an ENTIRE book without interruption, got to go on  a drive just to look at scenery, and got to see the love of my life finish his 2nd IM....

BUT, I am a classic lit girl, so I went with crap to read as a nice contrast....read J. Weiners "Good in Bed" and I found it well written, but depressing.  I am now reading "Love The One You're With" and it reminds me of stuff I wrote in HS....well written, but a bit trite.

I have heard that Three Cups of Tea is great......have on deck, the Secret Life of Bees.....just finished Lone Survivor...true story of a navy seal in Afghanistan...GREAT FREAKIN BOOK.

Me likey the summertime reading!

Born to Run:  A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen.

Terrifc so far...about halfway though.  Pretty much about this hidden tribe down in Mexico that pretty much runs like crazy everyday through the mountains in their cheap sandals.  A few are finally brought up to race in the US - at the Leadville 100, where they clean house.  Good book.

Just some light summer reading. I might throw in another read of Atlas Shrugged because it's always good.

Just finished The Sword of Truth series and Ender in Exile. Good times.

I don't know if this counts, but I am reading my Environmental Science book for class! It's surprisingly interesting/depressing. A lot of numbers and statistics that really makes a person sad about the world we will be passing on to the generations after us. The professor is a typical Bush hating Austinite, but at least the book is good.

My Spanish textbook doesn't count, I can't read most of what it says.

Also reading On War by Carl Von Clausewitz. Very dry and slow reading, but it is amazing how much he said 200 years ago that holds true for warfare today.

Later this summer I want to finally finish Le Miserables. I've read it three-fourths of the way through twice now. This time though, I'm totally gonna finish!

Love the Sword of Truth series, Wheel of Time is a bit long winded though. Can't forget the Dragonlance books and R.R. Martin series ("reading" on my ipod).

Right now re-reading some classics.
Walden
1984
Atlas Shrugged (still not as good as the Fountainhead)
Theogony
The Orestia

Oh and the Total Immersion book.

Loved Lone Survivor - I didn't think the writing was very good but the story was incredible.

Just started The Mighty Queens of Freeville by Amy Dickinson from NPR.  Seems cute but I've only read about 30 pages so far.

Casually re-reading the enitre Dune series both the original awesome ones and the less than awesome but still ok books by his kid, Brian Herbert.

Also more serious reading includes PNW best hikes with Dogs... (ok not really but I love it for planning my backpacking trips)

and actually seriously going to read "Of Men and Mountains" the biography of William O. Douglas (Supreme court justice who grew up in Wenatchee Washington and was a huge environmental guy, heck even has a national forest named after him (and it is full of berries and bears)

Holy heck! I started reading that book on Friday at 5pm, read it till it was time for bed, woke up and read it till it was over. LOVED it. And it has inspired me to start running again! Next I will be reading The End of Overeating by David Kessler. Just finished Good Calories, Bad Calories bt Gary Taubes. Life changer, that one.

The Modern Mind by Peter Watson

It is about intellectual thought in the 20th century.  It connects events, people, and big ideas.  It is the back story.  It would help if I knew a bit more about all these things that are being connected.

The Sword of Truth is pretty good. Kind of a Robert Jordan that isn't as detailed. Honestly I LOVE how detailed Jordan is and never thought he was long winded. More often than not I found Goodkind to be lacking in detail. The first half of the first book by Goodkind was really bad, but after the second half it was all good. Fun read. Thought it didn't end very well. Felt rushed.

I'm going through WoT again and loving it EVEN MORE!

I disagree. tWoT Books after the Path of swords until the last one Jordan wrote were all horrible. Even though some serious things happened that were awesome, he still ruined the book.

I recently finished Charlie Wilson's War. Not something that I would normally read, but a friend recommended it. It went a long way towards explaining why things are the way they are in Afganistan.

Three Cups of Tea is a phenomenal and inspiring book. I just finished "Truman" by David McCullough. It's the best biography I've ever read. Their is even a chapter entitled Ironman. Has nothing to do with triathlon, but I was inspired as I trainined for IM 70.3 Kansas. I'm now reading "In the Heart of the Sea".
