Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 4 AM to get ready for a race that is only 10 miles from home. Had a spoon full of peanutbutter and grabbed a few gels for later.
Event warmup:

Rode to the race from Billerica via Harold Parker route. Also swam the swim course before the race
Swim
  • 09m 22s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

When I preswam the course this morning, I noted that I could touch the bottom almost the whole course. This provided for an interesting swim. I figured if I started swiming ASAP, I could pull away from those running to the first bouy. I was wrong. I was over 1/2 way into the course before I could pull away from anyone. It was then I noticed the lack of "bobbing" swimmmers. I thought since this was a Y event, people were great swimmers. I then realized they were pushing off the bottom until it got to deep to do so. Pulled away and did not look back.
What would you do differently?:

This was a C race, so not much. Still a very respectable effort
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No splits for anything on this race, Just an overall time. I used my watch and bike computer to get the best I could, but will not touch the T times
What would you do differently?:

Got hung up huge with my helmet. Straps got wraped around the seat. I am disapointed in this transition. Probabaly the worst one I have ever had. Wetsuit came off well, but the helemt and shoes were issues this time. Oh well.
Bike
  • 43m 24s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.97 mile/hr
Comments:

pushed the bike relatively hard. Did not have much left in the tank on the bike since I had already logged over 15 miles getting into the race at a very pedestrian pace.
What would you do differently?:

this was a long training day C race, so nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Decent T2. Had a little issue with the running shoes, but nothing to worry about. Did have a tough time finding the dismount and return to tranision. Small detail, not worth worrying much about
What would you do differently?:

Went well overall
Run
  • 33m 44s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Was not expecting much. Did ok. Weired to run this course the opposite direction from the way I run it durring training and with so many people on the sidewalk.
What would you do differently?:

learn to be faster
Post race
Warm down:

saw my neice and went strait to the lake. How did it get so much colder after the swim? ;)

Event comments:

This was the first time for this race. I could not have been more impressed overall. I just hope they run it again.

Good to see you doing another great race.
You were among the first 12 people coming out from the swim. And I guarantee you look a lot better exiting the water than that as shown in your avatar.  :D  (still my favorite avatar of yours)
I managed to see you every time you pass on the bike course, and looks like you had a great run.
How did you manage to stick out your tongue every time I take a picture of you?

talent, and lots of practice taking crappy pictures. I guess since this was a "silly C race" I just went with the theme :p
