Sunny
Total Time = 1h 11m 22s
Overall Rank = 21/545
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 3/51
Pre-race routine:

Slept in a bit, change of pace. Got up around 5:15, had breakfast and car packed by 6 AM, got there around 7 AM - registered and setup transition.
Event warmup:

Had enough time for a quick bike spin and a light run around the block.
Swim
  • 08m 6s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Goal of today was to do well in the swim and bike. No wetsuits due to water temp of 82 deg F, no biggie. The swim was better than last year by 0:45 sec so mission accomplished there. I was hoping to be a bit faster but this is progress over last year. I will say there were people packed in from start to finish, this definitely held me up a bit. I usually have no problem swimming around, today was clogged.
What would you do differently?:

nothing much at this point.
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Decent transition, no suit to take off. Getting going was no big deal.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Bike
  • 36m 50s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 21.99 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt much stronger than normal on the bike today. Out was mostly uphill (very low grade) but a light headwind to slow me down a bit. Once I got to the turn I hit it hard to come back. Legs held up great and had a really fast return leg - I wish I clocked it. I got passed by maybe 2 or 3 bikes, passed many more. Dismount was perfect, not too fast and felt fluid.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

went ok, I came in and did a great dismount - racking was ok but it just felt slow getting the shoes on. My race belt w/bib was twisted, pissed me off.
What would you do differently?:

Leave the belt unclasped and take more care in getting it on while running to trans. exit.
Run
  • 24m 8s
  • 3.52 miles
  • 06m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was good, just a few seconds faster than last year but I had a huge gain on the bike. Running felt good, I had a hard time gauging my pace for the first 1/2 mile, I knew I was moving ok but felt slow. I only got passed by one guy, he was on a serious mission or someone stole his wallet. I passed many on the run, felt good to run defiantly.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much here, kids little league semifinal took precedence- had to go back home to help coach the game. I sacrificed my "hardware moment" for the kids, they are more important. PS - they won their game, they are headed to the league championship!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

nothing more than training time

Event comments:

This is a great "no frills" race, its not a big festival race but has a really close-knit atmosphere and has grown considerably in the last few years but it doesn't feel too big. The race organizers did another great job and the weather was perfect.
