Total Time = 2h 59m 3s
Overall Rank = 376/884
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 24/86
Pre-race routine:

got up at 4:00, ate an orange, a piece of whole wheat bread w/ a little peanut butter, and 24 oz. of water. prepped bottles for race and left hotel at 4:30 to arrive early for good parking. Ate a Luna bar at 5:00. Set up transition area, visited portapottie and started warm-up
Event warmup:

walked 5', 2X (2' jog, 1' walk), 10' jog, portapottie, stretch, wetsuit, got in water to get wet at 6:50 and waited for swim wave to go off
Swim
  • 31m 29s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

swam very straight out to turn-around; drifted right a bit on the way back, also got a mouth full of water and had to stop to cough and clear it on the way back
What would you do differently?:

continue to improve strength, swim stroke, and navigation
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

7/86 in division for transition - very happy with this one
What would you do differently?:

learn how to mount bike w/ shoes already clipped in and get shoes on while riding
Bike
  • 1h 33m 13s
  • 27.34 miles
  • 17.60 mile/hr
Comments:

could have pushed harder in some places, probably not my max effort here - need to work on the mental aspect on the bike
What would you do differently?:

improve bike speed, continue to work on climbing strength, work on aero position
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

29/86 in age group for T2, an improvement from the past but not fast enough, dropped bike trying to wave to Charles on my way in to transition
What would you do differently?:

go to the run without socks
Run
  • 50m 46s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

felt good - started strong, maintained okay
What would you do differently?:

finish some training runs w/ a strong 800m at the end to become accustom to hard effort when tired
Post race
Warm down:

walked and drank water for a few minutes, stretched, changed into dry clothes, ate a banana and then enjoyed the festival

What limited your ability to perform faster:

swim is better but still has a way to go, definitely felt that I could have done more on the bike both physically and mentally, very happy with my run and my transitions

Event comments:

This was an awesome event! The shwagg was great - shirt, hat, tote bag, metal water bottle, towel, and metal! The festival was a blast - relaxing by the beach w/ homemade ice cream, margaritas, beer, and all kinds of good food. Everything was super well organized and the expo was very cool. The park is beautiful. All of the volunteers were wonderful and the results were posted online same day. You can't beat this one!
