Sunny
Total Time = 1h 34m 48s
Overall Rank = 19/400
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/33
Pre-race routine:

Drove up to Spotsylvania (2 1/2 Hours) and checked into the Hotel. Drove to the site to check out the water and TX area, freakin cold!!!! TX are on grass up hill from the beach so thought it might be muddy.
Event warmup:

Nothin' too cold, just stayed warm with fleece and a hat. Did do a little swimming before as this is the first open water swim and first time in the west suit besides the pool!!
Swim
  • 13m 42s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 50s / 100 meters
Comments:

Cold but once got going it was OK. Wet suit nice and goggles held ok. Got caught in the packs a few times but did not get kicked or kick anyone hard.
What would you do differently?:

Be better prepared on the swim, needed to do some open water swims.
Transition 1
  • 04m
Comments:

Sl dizzy out of water and run up the hill, was suprised to see a ton of bikes still there.
What would you do differently?:

2 more seconds to dry off to get shirt on (wanted dry shirt with cold WX) shirt got stuck on back for a potatoe. Overall- not to bad considering it was my first true T1
Bike
  • 52m
  • 18 miles
  • 20.77 mile/hr
Comments:

Not bad, worked hard going up the hills, this is where I passed most every one, need to watch the double yellow line for penalties, no issue with the draft
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Tough TX area, was ll down hill to the TX area and then had to run down a mud hill....
What would you do differently?:

Helmet off and rready to rack, keep number on and ready to go from the beginning vs putting it on in the tx area, good with shoes and laces
Run
  • 22m 35s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

More T2 work, was sluggish at first but got into it, my slowest, lowest ranking segment
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough training

Event comments:

Not to much to go on as this was the first time, way stoked got 2nd in my age group and finished in Top 20 on first ever tri!!!

Nice race! Great job with your placing and with your first tri in cold conditions! Are you doing Breezy Point or the Tri America in Hampton?

I am looking into it, right now I will be in Canada until a week prior and don't think I can bring my bike and am not sure of swim availability. A a few frinds are going to be at teh Hampton tri there so probably is the best andswer for now....
