Sunny
Total Time = 1h 15m 41s
Overall Rank = 16/66
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 3/4
Pre-race routine:

Up at 3:45, coffee, smoothie, Facebook, checklist, drove up early and drove the bike route. Got to transition at 6:10 and got a space on the end of the rack.
Event warmup:

Swam out in the lake and jogged up the hill a couple of times. I stretched out my upper body but totally forgot to do any leg stretching.
Swim
  • 14m 10s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 53s / 100 meters
Comments:

It was a good swim. Focused on form. It felt a bit crowded with lots of bumping, but I got going well and finished strong.
Transition 1
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Things went well. I took off my wetsuit while still in the water at the edge of the lake. I saw some of the leaders do that at Seahorse and tried it without practice. It works fast.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 35m 16s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 21.10 mile/hr
Comments:

I would've been first in my AG, but my Aero Bottle flew off the bracket and onto the road in mile 1. Fearing bad results of a ride/run with no liquid, I stopped to get it and wasted some time fiddling with the velcro band, which I finally gave up on as four people swept past. I rode the whole race with a couple of fingers keeping the bottle in. I couldn't really see my compute on the new Specialized Transition Expert, so cadence was purely by feel. I had it in my mind to make up the time I lost with the bottle accident. Just before halfway, I passed another 45 year-old male, and made an effort to put as much distance as I could between us for the rest of the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Double check the velcro band, and maybe use the big rubber bands as a failsafe.
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

It went well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 24m 30s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

The 45 dude I passed on the bike flew by on the run, nothing I could do. I went out hard and felt more comfortable as the run progressed. It looks like I lost some speed due to hammering on the bike. At any rate, I couldn't have gone much faster.
What would you do differently?:

Know the course a little better and push harder on the last mile.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, drank Recoverite, stretched, ate burgers, and lots of HEED.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The water bottle thing. Not knowing my bike very well yet. Although the bike is faster than my Allez, I'm sure I'll be better on it yet, as this was only my second ride on the thing.

Event comments:

It was organized, marked, and staffed well. The burgers and dogs were great, as was the keg of beer. My only complaint was that they didn't start the awards ceremony until the last finisher came in from the long course, which kept us sprinters there for several hours after we were done.

Nice race - I was there watching my sister do the long course - we grew up near the bear lake channel.  I was commenting on your bike to my parents - that thing was shiny - looked like it was on its maiden voyage yesterday.

Good race and nice bike split even with losing your bottle.

It was my second ride on the bike, probably the reason I lost the bottle, new gadget and all.
