Subject: Runner's World and swimming form
Anyone get Runner's World? See the article on cross-training with swimming? Freak out at the form pictured at the top of the article??

My shoulder hurt just looking at it ...

oh my! it was so incorrect - you would think that in an athletic magazine they would at least include a picture that shows correct form. The swimming coach in me just wants to tell them to bend their elbow.

Not that I want to encourage anyone to windmill it... but I watched the Pro/Elite group come in from their swim at St. A's and the guy in about 5th place was windmilling it. No crook in his elbow at all. I was in disbelief but obviously it works for him.

Oh, and Pokey would you kindly take a look at my question about incorporating butterfly into my swim practice sessions (since you're a swim coach)?

I would die. I'd have to have my rotator cuff removed if I swam like that. As it is, after physical therapy, an MRI, and a cortizone shot, I'm still afraid to throw a softball and annoy my poor tendon.
