So I got a new pair of Aqua Sphere Kaiman goggles and tried them out for the first time at the pool yesterday. I was amazed at how well they worked! However, they seemed to fog up really quickly. The only solution I could think of was to keep a little water in them and slosh them around a bit to clear them up.

Is there anything else I can do about this?

If you are on the cheap, then spit into them before you swim and smudge it around a bit with your finger so you don't get any spit into your eye when you start swimming.

I personally use the speedo non-fog spray but everyone I know pretty much uses spit.

Smearing a little spit on the inside of the lenses works just fine.

Spit works well for me, but I had to "reapply" several times during my workouts.

Someone mentioned Baby Shampoo and it will last my entire workout; about an hour or so. Smear some, lightly, on the inside of your dry goggles with your finger. Rinse lightly and you are good to go. I reapply before each swim workout or race. Haven't fogged up at all.

Never heard of the baby shampoo thing - might have to try it since we have a two and a half year old.

I tried the spit thing - always used to work in my goggles/masks as a kid. I tried this and it didn't work. Maybe it was just because I was nervous at the pool and keep fidgeting with them. I'll try this again and the other suggestion, and if all else fails I'll break down and try an antifog spray.

Thanks guys!

Don't even clear the fog with chlorine water from the pool. It ruins the anti fog coating on the inside and ruins the goggles. Always wash them with fresh non chlorine water afterwards, a quick rinse under the tap will remove the corrosive chlorine. Do the same with togs.

Divers will take toothpaste and coat the inside of the lens and then use a little water and lightly rub the residue away.  This keeps them from fogging up nicely.

Toothpaste is also "gritty" and will scratch the goggles.

I'm a diver and this is what I do.  Spit also works well if you don't have any toothpaste.  Also, someone mentioned not to rinse out in the pool water. That is good advice.  Remember to rinse with non-chlorinated water.  When diving, the dive boats keep a bucket of non-salt water for divers to rinse out their masks.

Toothpaste too.  My diving friends told me about this one.  A tiny amount rubbed on then rinsed out last me many workouts.

Wash with windex or dish soap at home, three or four uses.

As far as I know the whole point is to get the lenses clean. If there's any dirt on them fog will quickly follow. I use the hand soap at the pool change room. Apply with a little water, rub around with my fingers and rinse thoroughly. Also, if you keep your goggles loose in your gear bag you're more likely to have to clean them frequently. My $0.02

I agree with the baby shampoo. Just buy a little plastic travel spray bottle for $1 and fill it with about 95% water and a little squeeze of baby shampoo, shake it up and spray inside of goggles. Works much better than spit and lasts a session if you don't rinse them.

I had a bad experience with a commercial "anti-fog spray" last year...I must not have rinsed it well enough and during my swim my goggles leaked and some got into my eye. I got half way through the bike and had to stop because at that point the pain was so bad I couldn't keep either eye open. Ended up getting diagnosed with a corneal ulcer that hurt like I could not believe, and it ruined my A race for the year. When I followed up with the opthamologist he said he had seen several corneal burns from similar products. So I think spit and baby shampoo are very good recommendations!

I've found that if I spit on the dry lens and move it around then lightly rinse I'm good.  IF I get the lenses wet first, THEN spit in them, they fog just as quickly...

I'm going to try the baby shampoo idea too.  Some mornings it's so early I can't even get decent spit...

Tri coach told me this. Fog is created by moisture in the goggle. Get your face wet then put goggle on... moisture =fog, spit in it shampoo whatever all have moisture and eventually fog. His advise was put the goggles on before I leave the locker room, or after getting wetsuit on while the face is dry. I've done this since and have not had any fogging issues. Now I'll admit eventually working hard is going to cause some skin perspiration within the goggle to cause fogging but I've yet to have it be an issue. Makes sense to me when I think about it.

Just tried the toothpaste trick this week with two different pairs of goggles . . . works quite well!

OK lets dork out!

You basically are looking for a surfactant to put on the inside surface of your goggles. A surfactant is something that lowers the surface tension of the water. fog is little beads of water, if the surface tension is lowered than the beads can't form therefore no fog.

The other thing you are looking for is something that has a PH the same as the human body. This is why spit works and won't burn your eyes; also why baby shampoo works.

If you ignore the PH, most soaps(shampoos,etc..) would work. However if water gets in then it takes that soap right to your eye and starts to burn.

I never thought of toothpaste before, and can't imagine that they are all PH balanced. So I would imagine some could cause problems. So without setting up a DOE and testing whole bunch of stuff, I stick with baby shampoo or spit. I actually don't bother at all for training, only for long distance open water swims.
