Overall Rank = 79/346
Age Group = F45-49
Age Group Rank = 1/8
Pre-race routine:

up@ 5:15 (I was SURE my alarm said 5:00 when I set it??? Alzheimers??) So, second weekend in a row, flew out of bed, dressed, poptarts toasted and out the door with a fast kiss to Steve and Allie. Easy, quick drive to Lake Geneva and the site. Since I was so late, the parking had back up to the grassy area just to the left of the guard shack! SWEET! BUT...no spots to speak of on the racks. No sweat, figured it out, fairly close to bike/run out!
Event warmup:

My usual, wander wander, potty stop, wander wander, potty stop. Get in line. Have complete strangers zip me up (two girls...note this 1/4 way through swim...)
Swim
  • 17m 28s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

ok, lets just say if you love swimming in a washing machine that is on the back of a mechanical bull, this swim was for you!!! That said, I only choked a few times, when being dropped off the side of a wave. Seriously! And, as noted above, 1/4 of the way through the swim...I feel a very cool sensation in the middle of my back, spreading slowly to cover my entire back...I once again wanted to race naked!! Either the girls who had such a hard time getting the zipper attached at the top of my suit (yes the zipper attaches at the top and zips down) didn't attacht it well, or some pulled the cord while they were swimming over me! I pondered while I cont. to swim "how much water will this suit take on before I completely sink" and can I take it off, and walk with it, deposit it on shore, then continue? Or will I drown first" Lots to ponder on while being thrashed around! Water sorta poured in one arm ONCE, the velcro at my neck was pretty darn strong! Im thinking the relief of the cooler water helped me keep from overheating!! I kept swimming while 3/4 walked the course! I was envisioning their tired quads once they hit the bike!! (I was right!!) Out of the water, wet suit half off, and up the hill, cross the road and over to transition! Have I EVER mentioned that I don't swim train?? hehehehe!
What would you do differently?:

train? stay dressed to decrease drag...?? only do duathlons!
Transition 1
  • 02m 8s
Comments:

Something was slow, but I don't remember what it was!!! Long run to bike.
What would you do differently?:

I can't remember! (Alzheimers, like I said before!)
Bike
  • 40m 41s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 18.29 mile/hr
Comments:

WINDY!!! YIKES! Almost blew me in the ditch many times!! The site has the course at 14.29 miles...but that isn't 20k!! So, I was not doing 21 something! (I changed it above) I passed all the goofs who walked the swim and trashed their legs! I really rode hard, passed by one guy, passed mega bikes. (I was in the second to last wave, so not too many around to pass me, 'cept those out of the water after me, like I said, not many!)
What would you do differently?:

Gain weight so I can stay on the road easier?? Really pleased with my effort though!
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

ran out with hat and number, put 'em on on the run. Few quick gulps of Gatorade. Long run with bike to rack. Short run out.
What would you do differently?:

???
Run
  • 24m 17s
  • 3.17 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

minutes into run (on a tree root...trail run), went numb right away after the pain, but with in 10 minutes it was fine! Passed alot of guys and girls, passed by a few Oly distance guys, and one girl. During last mile, thought "am I leaving it all on the course, or will I saw during my race report, I shoulda/coulda run harder" and kicked a bit more!! Left it all out there! (shoulda thought that on the first mile!)
What would you do differently?:

Pushed a bit more on the first mile? 1/8:10 2/7:44 3/740 and .17/39
Post race
Warm down:

wander...wander...talk to Dave (skavoovie), finally found Miami9296 (?) Amy who was a sweetie and stayed for the awards ceremony! (thanks Amy, you looked GREAT at your finish!! Cute skirt!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

nada...happy with my race, we all had the same crappy wind!

Event comments:

Always have done/loved this race! Will continue to do it!

I'm a little relieved that it didn't say "wandered aimlessly".

Hmmmm, check that wetsuit closely.  I've noticed I've taken in a little water lately on my OWS, too.  I may have a small tear/rip that is not that noticeable.

No, really, my zipper came completely opened!!! A girl in the swim actually noticed it! My wandering was quite aimlessly though...

After reading this RR I am bummed I didn't do it this year.  Great job as usual.  And I would have to agree with your comment to gain some weight so you don't blow over.
